Hey short question, I thought you only need I797 to change your status, what are you waiting next?

hi . Not sure about it . My recruiting institution legal office asked for I612 copy before they can file my H1B application. So i have a grace period until 31 August with J1 (before which the H1B has to be submitted with I612).

Not sure if the question was for me but in my situation,

my I-130 was approved in April and I was sent an RFE for the I-485. I replied to the RFE when the waiver was sent from the DoS to USCIS. Yesterday the USCIS approved the I-612 but I-485 is not yet updated. I am not sure how does it work so it might get updated today or may take months. At least I am still going to get a call from a tier 2 officer in the next 10 days so I will ask him if its not approved by then.

I feel reading experiences from others has given some method in this madness but still its quite unclear how they do the processing.

hoping the best for everyone.

I see. My case is different then since I will apply for H1B after J-1 waiver is approved.

I see. For my case, they ask for I979. so confusing, haha.

I am also waiting for the USCIS to send me the final waiver. The Department of State sent the favorable recommendation on June 30th. I haven't even received the receipt number. I contacted them through the live chat, and they told me I have to wait 60 DAYS! The thing is that I just have a few days left. I got approved for expedited with the Department of State. I was planning to do the same with USCIS but with no case number I have my hands tied. Does anyone know if there is something I could do? I tried contacting my congressman, but no answer yet.

hey . i think reaching out congressman office is the best option. uscis can never tell anything . it took a month for me to get the receipt number. there is 1/2 weeks gap between the DOS sending date and USCIS receiving date and again a gap between generating the receipt notice. some people get them in couple of weeks. it will come to your mailbox. are you applying for h1b?

Thanks! Yes, I will be applying for an H1B. On top of everything I am moving next

week and uscis again told me I can't update my address until I get the receipt number, but how am going to get it if I am moving! I am beyond frustrated. All the wait with the DoS, who also messed up my paperwork at the beginning 😒😑 and now uscis. I am in my grace period right now. It is about to end 😞

Update your address with USPS and enable mail forwarding. I've heard sometimes USCIS mails do not get forwarded and are returned to the sender, but the support agent on the live chat will know the receipt number by that time hopefully and you can update your address.

also reach out USCIS live chat again and tell them you want to talk to tire2 officer and explain the situation that you have to travel in the pandemic with a risk and severe financial consequence if you lose this job offer in time. did you tell the congressman office that it's very URGENT. call them and ask them you want to inquire your case at USCIS and request expedition . Can your employer submit H1B application with DOS approval , given rest is pending at USCIS ?

I haven't directly asked my employer and their lawyer to file just with the recommendation from DoS. They have all my paperwork and the lawyer hasn't asked me for more. Could we file like that? Right now the lawyer is waiting for my employer to send the required check, so I think that has been the delay.

I will keep calling the congressman, uscis and I also reached out to my state senator a am trying to do all I can.
