This question asks to list all states and foreign countries you have resided in since your 18th birthday. The question sounds dumb, but how long is considered residing? I was in Japan for a few months on a Navy ship, but only for a few months. I also went to bootcamp and a school in separate states, do I list those?

On my application I listed boot camp, technical training school, etc. I listed every place that I stayed if it wasn't a visit or vacation.

I figured it was any state or country where you set up a residence or filed taxes or received mail.   like  out of state college,  Things that they can check.  I am not sure about multiple deployments in the military??  but you still had a home base?

I listed 15 States and 3 foreign countries.

Be complete and thorough.  The background checks they run on you are Federal level.. so its all in there if you don't list it.  I have not read about anyone getting an RFE on VJ about it, but its easy enough to list the places you do remember.
