Hello everyone,

I am in the process of gathering information for RFE,

Could you please assist with format for personal statement, I know I have to tell my story, I have been writing for the past 4 days, It has been hard to bring back memory of the horrible experience,. However, I sometimes get stuck and not sure if I am given the right information.

Kindly provide any updated format for writing personal statement maybe that will be helpful.

I am currently using this format https://www.ilrc.org/sites/default/files/documents/document_gathering_for_self-petitioning_under_the_violence_against_women_act.pdf

I will appreciate your suggestions.

Hey guys!

I had my VAWA approved on January, 27 2020 and I got my work permit a couple weeks afterwards.

I still didn't receive the approval letter, I even sent a letter to them asking for the approval letter and I still don't have anything in hands. Should I worry about it?

Can I apply for the green card even without the approval letter?

Thank you in advance for your help!

From previous peoples experiences, what is the likelihood of getting an RFE? I feel like I've submitted absolutely everything I possibly could for the short duration (5 months) from when I was dating and married to my spouse before they abandoned our marriage.

What about the mutal injunction that me and wife will never contact each other

Mutual injunction is a double edge sword ,unless it is absolute necessary in a given situation, one should  try to avoid it. My attorney told me.

Sorry but id doesn't seem your attorney is an immigration attorney, because an immigration attorney won't say something   stupid like he  said.  There is no repercussion against the petitioner because of  a  congressional inquiry.

Thanks Sandra. I will inquire with congressperson.

Can some one please let me know how do i initiate a inquiry with the congressperson? my vawa case was filed in june 2017.

Thanks everybody for the information. This forum gives me more hope than even my lawyer !

It's very easy. Look up "find your representative" or just use this link https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative

Find who your congressman is (closest local office) and call them, say you want to speak with someone about an immigration issue. They will transfer you to a specialist and you just tell them your situation. They will guide you through the process, no special knowledge needed, just make the call ASAP like literally tomorrow.

Hi everyone! How long did it take you to get police clearance from your country?

This varies from country to country.
In my case 2 weeks through relatives.

Which state are you in?
Google “ my representatives” and you’ll find the one closest to you in your county.

You should by all means get them to contact USCIS on your behalf. In my case, my representative acted as a liaison between me and USCIS at every stage of my VAWA journey until GC approval. After I got the approval they sent me a congratulatory message and told me not to hesitate to contact them in future for anything relevant. These people make the journey easier so please take advantage of them!

Also, did you have to send a special power of attorney through your embassy to have your relative get the police clearance?

I sent a notarized  letter asking them to let my relative pick the clearance for me. But it was sent not to the embassy but to relative who furnished it to relevant authorities

Was your clearance have to be authenticated by a government agency to be accepted here? Or was it just a plain original copy from the police agency?

No. The clearance itself bears enough weight since it’s already from a foreign government body.
