Hi good morning flipilychee820, sorry for bothering you again. Does your interview officer ask you to explain the meaning of words in Yes/No questions, for example, explain what "totalitarian" is?

Hello!:) I don't think I was asked the meaning of the words in Part 12.  But I think I know why you are asking,  I also thought that the Part 12 words are going to be asked because I saw a video on Youtube, about them being asked about the meaningof those words like, totalitarian, genocide, paramilitary,  guerrilla etc. but Like I said, I think I overprepared and I sort of memorized them. hahah :)) but  I was not asked at all, as far as I remember. I think for part 12 she only asked me if I ever claimed to be a US citizen, voted in a federal office and do I owe any taxes. But I don't remember being asked about the part 12 words... I don't know with the other VJ members though.

Also, yes there is an ipad where you will do the reading and writing test. They have a pen  you can use to write on the ipad there and hand sanitizer. There is also parking near the building, right across the  street. We parked on one for $13 for half a day. I think it was on 2nd avenue. My husband used an app called "parkwhiz". When is your interview if you don't mind me asking?

I know they would give you the application for passport after the interview. Would you be able to submit the application to the office that day or you would need to mail the application?

Yes they gave me a passport application but she told me to call the Department of State because of Covid, they require an appointment.  I don't know if it has changed again. For the passport, you would still need to mail that and they require the original Naturalization Certificate.  So, I am applying at USPS since my whole family needs to have all of our passports renewed anyway.  You can apply for an expedited one if you are travelling in a month or so. Here is their website for more info https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports.html/.

Hi SanDiego91, a quick question for you. Were you asked to write on a tablet (ipad) for the writing test?

Also you said they did not ask you to explain the meaning of Yes/no question from N400 section 12 right?

Jin

1/yes! don't worry about bad handwriting (by finger). just make sure you write what they tell you!

2/ yes! For sure they will ask all of "YES" questions, and half amount of "NO" questions!

P/s: Just got my oath ceremony date on April 27 ( 19 days after interview)

Yay, It's offical, my husband is now a US Citizen!!!  Oath Ceramony completed today and Naturalization Certificate in hand. I'm soooooooo happy to be done with dealing with USCIS and immigration. Now just to deal with the normal govt. offices for passport, update social security info, etc...lol even when you're done, you are never really done.

Congrats! Schedule a passport appointment asap, available appointments are so hard to find in many parts of the country right now, hopefully it's not that hard where you guys are.

I'm a little concerned about booking any travel for exactly that reason... That said, there is a way to expedite a passport application due to upcoming travel, but it looks like you can only make use of that within 72-hours of your scheduled travel. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/get-fast.html

I believe I've read in another thread that, while you may be offered to take the oath same-day if available, you are not obligated to do so.

On April 23rd I became a US citizen! I'm stoked that my immigration journey is over and I have this forum to thank for helping me every single step of the way. The next step is getting a US passport, I would have done the SSN first but their offices are closed due to Covid and I didn't want to mail my Naturalization certificate twice. It'll take a while for my passport to arrive so I'm not out of the woods just yet but thankful to be at this point. Hang in there y'all!

Hi there, I just completed my interview this morning and my application was being recommended for approval. The officer asked me all questions in part 12, but did not ask me to provide any extra supporting document. We did civic test first and then reading and writing. Finally, the officer went through the application form and asked me some questions.  Plus, reading, writing, and any signatures are done on the tablet. Now I am waiting for my oath letter, and thanks to everyone.

March 18, 2020 filer in San Francisco here, still waiting to get my interview scheduled. Did any of you receive a text message and/or email from USCIS that said: "We have taken an action on your case. Sign in to your USCIS account - link."? I just received those this morning and was giddy with excitement assuming my interview finally got scheduled... but there was no update yet in my account. According to the internets, it can take a couple of days for the update to actually show up. Is there anyone here that received that message and then saw an update in their account at a later time?

Just give it some days, and I believe you will receive your “Interview Was Schedule” soon.

They already have your bio information, right? Bio appointment done or reused.

The step "We have taken an action on your case.” is before “Interview Was Schedule.” If no issue, you will receive good news within 14 days. They were taking action on my case on 3/11 and interview noticed was sent on 3/25. I also saw some applicants do not need 14 days, so I said within 14 days.  Almost there, just wait a couple of days.
