Well absolutely nothing about this process has been smooth. Here's the Cliff Notes guide to what's gone on since I was issued my visa:

1st October 2019: Visa Issued

4th October 2019: I pay the USCIS Immigrant Fee for my Green Card.

28th December 2019: POE CBP officer asks for the address to send my SSN and Green Card to. I give him my attorney's address on the basis that I didn't have an apartment arranged at that time, only what turned out to be a sketchy AirBnB. They forward on the details to both USCIS and Social Security.

30th December 2019: SSA issues a number and sends the card to my attorney.

20th January 2020: USCIS produces my Green Card.

23rd January 2020: USPS picks up my Green Card and takes it to my attorney's address.

This is where it all goes wrong USPS loses my Social Security card and number. Turns out that CBP mangled my name so it was all incorrect anyway. Took four weeks before I managed to get my SSN card produced and sent to the correct address. One down eventually. Now for the green card.

"January 25, 2020, the Post Office reported that they are returning your new card for Receipt Number xxx, to us. We mailed your card to the address you gave us, but the Post Office could not deliver it."

Incorrect address apparently. Which is bullshit because they were happily sending paperwork to/from my attorney at that address.

Sigh. The tracking number provided is a dead end. I've spent much of the last two months filing repeated (three) AR-11 forms (spaced weeks apart for processing time) to try and update USCIS of my address. Once that was finally done, I put in the forms to resend the green card. They took two weeks to process and went straight to a black hole. Eventually last week a helpful USCIS agent on the phone suggested I talk to USPS. They've got the same info as the tracking number, so they've effectively taken a green card, failed to deliver it and then lost it.

Ok I follow the other advice I was given and file an I-90 for a lost card. Now I've the following update:

"On February 29, 2020, we scheduled you for a biometrics appointment and sent you an appointment notice for Receipt Number xxx. Please follow the instructions in the notice."

So questions:

1) Would you trust USPS to actually deliver this notice given they've massively ###### up twice now? I get junk mail just fine ;)

2) What does the Biometrics appointment actually involve?

3) Is this going to be an all day thing or will I be in and out in a couple hours?

4) Do I have any redress with USPS over any of this? I've now burned through one of my ten allowed SSA cards and now I'll be having to take time away from work to continue dealing with this mess.

So questions:

1) Would you trust USPS to actually deliver this notice given they've massively ###### up twice now? I get junk mail just fine ;) You do not have much choice

2) What does the Biometrics appointment actually involve? Fingerprints and photo.

3) Is this going to be an all day thing or will I be in and out in a couple hours? Depending on how busy your local office is should be in and out fairly quickly. There is not much to the appt.

4) Do I have any redress with USPS over any of this? I've now burned through one of my ten allowed SSA cards and now I'll be having to take time away from work to continue dealing with this mess. None that I can think of.
