Lol, no not related to Martha Stewart. An aunt gave me her Weddings book last go round, and I consulted it frequently back then. I was trying to accommodate a very traditional taste in a wedding and Martha is a safe pair of hands in that regard. It's all exceptionally tasteful. Anyway, I sort of default to Martha for knowing what's what. I have this coming via Amazon now though: https://www.amazon.com/Practical-Wedding-Affordable-Stress-free-Celebration/dp/0738246727 A bit more modern. Maybe Meghan would approve. :P

Anyway, the latest is BoJo is taking paternity leave this summer: https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/mar/03/boris-johnson-paternity-leave-prime-minister-carrie-symonds This pic from the article cracks me up:

Alex and I were in bed talking last night about the thousand million (or thousand million +1) children Boris has, and he said to me that it was beyond him how any woman could bear having that "shapeless sack of #####" anywhere near her body, let alone the "seemingly unending parade of wives and tarts" and I reminded him that for some women, physical attractiveness is down the list, and power/money/social clout is worth more. And for that matter, a charming personality can make someone very attractive, and Boris (apparently) can be very charming. Then he told me that he agreed about the charming personality bit, because look, here he was with me. <_< No sandwich for him for at least three days.

They do say love is blind. Probably not always, but sometimes at least.

I have made the mistake of looking at my ex's Facebook (don't judge) and there is the most fawning/grossout pic of Boris and Carrie that he's posted in tribute.

To be fair, most of our mutual friends have given the post the "Haha" reaction.

I did not like! I gave no reaction at all, did not comment or anything. I have some ability to restrain myself. I did however immediately send a message to one of our mutual friends with a barf GIF which she gave a thumbs up to. She is very, very pro Sir Keir these days, not just because he is kind of hot (though his teeth are meh).

The dog is very cute. The Jack Russell, I mean.

Dear oh dear. Now that was not very nice.

I wanted to be clear!!! Carrie Symonds is a perfectly normal looking person. She has very nice hair. I think her style of dressing has gotten WAY too dowdy though.

So you were not calling her a dog?

No, I wasn't! I pointed out the Jack Russell specifically because I didn't want it to look like I was calling her a dog. She's not a dog! She's perfectly normal looking to me, not unattractive. Now, could I be uncharitable and pick at the ways in which she isn't sublime? Sure. But I would not want that done to me. I can't say she's my type, because (1) I am not attracted to women and (2) if I were, I'd probably NOT go for a blonde.

Well I think it could be misconstrued, I must admit I do not follow her to know how her appearance has changed. Or why it has the motivation behind it.

She comes across as lets say strong.

Blonde's can certainly be hard work.

I am glad I could clarify. :) It's uncommon to see English women quite so frumpy at that age. I was that age only a few years back, and I think of what my friends over there (similar educational backgrounds, presumably similar class) were wearing. Long skirts, yes on occasion, but not the full on "stylish sister wife" look all the time. Really, I don't remember SamCam looking that frowsy and she's older. There is a way to dress conservatively without looking like you're older than you are. I don't usually show a lot of skin, even in summer, but I like to think I pull it off.

I know blondes can be hard work -- my sister is Exhibit #1. My dad is Exhibit #2. Voldy is Exhibit #3. Sticking with the brunettes from now on.

Have been lobbying Mrs. T-B. to go blonde for the longest time.

The appeals don't impel her to go blonde, but they do make her go "aysheep*."

Boris Johnson should be thought of every time you want her to go blonde. Also it's hell on your hair to go light and then all the money on maintenance... I am sticking to my own shade of blonde.

More on Carrie -- Boiler, this is your DM update:

Quote

Carrie appears to come from a long line of women built to keep their nerve in the face of what others might see as scandalous behaviour. It is a line that traces all the way back to the elegant drawing rooms that Carrie now calls home.

While 55-year-old Boris isn’t short of a child or two, Carrie is 31 and has no children of her own

According to society speculation, and Symonds family legend, Carrie’s grandmother, Anne Harrison, was the daughter of PM Herbert Asquith and Hilda Harrison, a young Major’s daughter – the result of their illicit romance conducted in Downing Street that started over a seemingly polite game of bridge.

Anne herself then went on to have an affair with the married journalist John Beavan, later Lord Ardwick, with Anne giving birth to Matthew Symonds, Carrie’s father.

In keeping with the family tradition of flying in the face of orthodox behaviour, Carrie herself is the love child of a relationship started while her parents were both married to other people. They met at The Independent newspaper where her father Matthew was deputy editor and her glamorous mother, Josephine McAfee, was the in-house lawyer.

The couple never lived together and Carrie was brought up by Josephine alone in East Sheen, south-west London, while her father continued to live in nearby Twickenham with his wife, Alison, with whom he also has three children.

Carrie’s relationship with her father is said to be difficult. ‘Carrie has said she considers him to have been a domineering, absentee father from her childhood,’ says a family friend. ‘He did visit, from time to time, but Carrie has complained that he would come in and tell her and her mother what to do.’

Seriously, these people make me feel like my life is blessedly normal.

You could always consider it aspirational? Always think I grew up to prim and proper, perhaps there is a middle way.

My ex is the source of allllllll the cray in my life. I like to think I had a pretty normal life before he crashed into mine. His newest plan is to try to figure out how to bring both of his UK girlfriends over to America on visas -- one on a K1, and one on... some other one. Both women are okay with this! I don't think it sounds (1) normal or (2) like it would fly with USCIS. I am not going to tell him this, he can figure it out for himself. Maybe he is modelling himself on Boris with the wife and a girlfriend plan?
