We submitted our EAD / AP renewal more than a week ago and didn't get any text or email notification even though we filled out the e-notification form. Anyone else in this boat? Trying not to freak out!!! Haha

What are the rules for EAD? Does the renewal need to be approved before it expires or is it enough to have submitted the renewal request before it expires? I know that for EADs based on OPT you only need to submit the renewal before the EAD expires as long as it is for the same eligibility category. Is the same through for EADs based on AOS?

Don't want to do more paperwork than I need to. Still waiting for my interview, but hope I will receive something soon.

I submitted my EAD/AP renewal about a week ago. At that time, my case status was "Ready to be schedule". So I did not know when I would get my green card, and I wanted to keep the valid combo card till my green card arrives since I got a job. Also, I am not sure how long it will take to get the new combo card. "Ask Emma" says I should file forms at least 180 days before the combo card is due to expire. (It is better to double check with Emma by yourself because it could be changed...) I had to do some paperwork, but I thought it would be better than losing a job or getting some troubles.

I haven't received anything (text/email) yet since I submitted the renewal. I am in the same boat, danilich33! However, my case status is changed to "Interview was scheduled"!!yay  So now, I am waiting for the notice letter. Hope everyone's interview will be scheduled soon too.

To answer my own question: USCIS extends EADs automatically for up to 18- days if you file your renewal timely:

https://www.uscis.gov/working-in-the-united-states/information-for-employers-and-employees/automatic-employment-authorization-document-ead-extension

This should apply to most of us waiting for interview, so no need to stress excessively! :)

Automatic Employment Authorization Document (EAD) Extension

Starting Jan. 17, 2017, USCIS is automatically extending certain expiring EADs for up to 180 days for applicants who:

  • Properly filed for a renewal EAD before their current  EAD expired, and
  • Are otherwise eligible for a renewal, which means that:
    • Your EAD renewal is under a category that is eligible for an automatic 180-day extension (see the list of categories below); and
    • The Category on your current EAD matches the “Class Requested” listed on this Notice of Action.  (Note:  If you are a TPS beneficiary or pending applicant, your EAD and this Notice must contain either the A12 or C19 category, but the categories do not need to match each other).

We are doing so to help prevent gaps in employment authorization and documentation. This extension applies to Form I-765 renewal applications that are still pending on January 17, 2017, and to Form I-765 renewal applications filed on or after Jan. 17, 2017.

Hey Everyone!

I just got home from my AOS interview, thought i'd post my experience.

We arrived early at 8:30 there was a queue outside, people outside told us that passports can go straight in otherwise 9am wait outside, the called 8:40 and then at 8:45 they called 9am. You get met by some rude security people who just yell things at you then you go through airport style security scanners. Straight up the escalator where there is a really nice officer who directs you. Woman behind the glass screen was not bothered and didnt say anything like you should know what to do. She scans your letter and writes a number on your letter. Thats it, she doesnt explain you will be called or anything, the officer who was on the floor directed us to seats to ensure social distancing.

At 9:15 we were called in by our officer. He explains what is going to happen and then we take our oaths. He then proceeded to take fingerprints and picture and asked for our ID

He asked my husband questions about our relationship where we met, when we met how we met. When we got married where we have been travelling to, where we like to eat. My husband was nervous as he wasnt expecting so many questions! He kept asking my husband why marriage now? why did you get married now?

Then the agent told me he was going go ask me questions he went through a few of the i485 questions quickly and checked them through. Asked me to sign at then end of one of the pages. He was very clever and went wait i forgot what date you got married and i answered. This was a test obviously and he did this a few times asking me the same questions about our relationship. I Guess to make sure that it was consistent. The agent asked for proof that we were together, we handed over leases  and insurance documents. That was it. he said you are provisionally approved, he needs to check my travel background and we should hear something in the next few weeks! But check on the USCIS website after 48hours and it should be updated.

All in all it took probably about 30 minutes from going in to coming out.

Good luck to everyone else! happy to answer any questions.

Congratulations! I came to check if you had yours because we had ours too! Last week. Crazy how different our experiences were in the exact same office. We got asked next to nothing!!!!! I’m so glad you were approved!

Got our letter! Date is April 13.

Seems like it's asking for a lot of the same information on the affidavit of support. Should we bring some updated information from that?

Hi all,

Anyone in California (the San Jose area) have their interview scheduled, or hear anything? We've put in two inquiries with the USCIS agent live chat about our interview with zero response even though we were assured we'd get a response within 30 days of both. I've heard that it can be up to a year and a half after you filed before you get an interview but we are feeling a bit anxious about it. Congrats to those who have already had their interview and thank you for sharing your experiences!

I'm in San Francisco and nothing yet. We haven't filed any requests. Status has been "Ready to Schedule an Interview" since August 2020. Based on Lawfully app, we should hear something by end of April, but we are not holding out breath. I'm in the process of renewing my EAD now - 180 days before it expires.

Thank you for that... I was really hoping to not have to fill out anymore damn paperwork lol. We've also been ready to schedule since August of 2020 and were hoping to have our interview soon. Well, let's keep each other updated! Hopefully we hear something soon! Good luck!

Yeah, paperwork is never fun! Considering the offices were closed last year, I'm not even being positive about the April timeline.

I've also heard that EADs are delayed  - thankfully there is this: https://www.uscis.gov/working-in-the-united-states/information-for-employers-and-employees/automatic-employment-authorization-document-ead-extension

Definitely, lets keep each other int he loop through here. Good luck to you as well!

Hi all,

Does anyone know how long takes to get the notice letter with the interview date after your online status changed to "Interview Was Scheduled"? Also, what documents do I need to bring/prepare for the interview?

My online case status changed to "Interview Was Scheduled" on March 19th. I haven't received the notice letter with the interview date yet....
