Gotcha, thanks.  Not trying to pin you down, but above you said, "I paid less in taxes in Alberta than I do here in Colorado."  How do you know (since you haven't worked in CA since 2013), or does it just feel like more taxes here?

I did the math 8 years ago with my take home pays and gross pay and EI. I cant tell you the numbers.  I just dont remember them.  i do remember i have paid more and you have to include the fact that I now have to pay for health insurance and up there I did not.  Its possible that I paid more taxes in Canada but when you add health care into the mix, i pay more down here.  Not only do I pay for health insurance but I have to pay another 3k before they pay anything beyond what they deem preventative! So a basic CBC, random glucose and thyroid test, standard for my physicals in Canada, now cost me out of pocket. A mammogram? Yeah out of pocket.... the only good thing health insurance has done for me is lower the costs on meds (yay) and urgent care visits that didnt help the issue.  Oh my HSA.  Thank god for that.

It would help if I were REALLY sick.  I could change the plan but it would cost me more.
