work authorization stamped on passport

hi everyone, i just want to ask on what to do if your passport or your I-194 was not stamped with work authorization by the POE in Los Angeles.. I was not aware that their shoul be a stampe till i went to the SSS office an they aske for it.. any help or idea from you all.. i need because i cant work without sss number.. thanks

additional to that i am on a K3 visa which means i can work immediately but i am asked by it..

As Kez said, K3 is NOT authorised to work.

LA does not stamp (K1) passports, only JFK does this.

You WILL need to apply for a EAD.

You cannot get a SSN with a K3 visa unless you have either the EAD or Greencard.

What the others said, K3s are not work authorised. You have to apply for EAD or AOS (or both) and can get an SSN and work after receiving either your EAD or greencard.

K3 Timeline - 2006-11-20 to 2007-03-19

AOS & EAD Timeline

2007-04-16: I-485 and I-765 sent to Chicago (My AOS/EAD checklist)

2007-04-17: Received at Chicago

2007-04-23: NOA1 date (both)

2007-05-10: Biometrics appointment (both - Biometrics review)

2007-06-05: AOS interview letter date

2007-06-13: AOS interview letter received in mail

2007-07-03: EAD card production ordered

2007-07-07: EAD card received! (yay!)

2007-08-23: AOS interview (Documents / Interview review)

2007-08-23: Green card production ordered!!!

2007-08-24: Welcome notice mailed!

2007-08-27: Green card production ordered again... ?

2007-08-28: Welcome notice received!

2007-09-01: Green card received!

Done with USCIS until May 23, 2009!

thanks guys for the info but i'm really confused bec we hired a lawyer and he said i can immediately work because of my type of visa which is K3... if i'm on K1 then i cant work for about 6months...and as what i remembered the immigration officer in los angeles personally said that i am lucky coz i am on a k3 visa wherein i can work unlike other people who will be going to the us..thanks

Sounds like this lawyer gave you some crappy advice. What you've been told here is the CORRECT information. :)

The lawyer was either incorrect or you and he were mis-communicating.

The immigration officer may have been comparing you with other non-immigrant visa types - a K-visa person can apply for employment authorization and go to work, most other types of non-immigrant cannot.
