May I ask what the passport photos are uploaded for? It says in the guides that they are not required (only physical passport photos at the interview)

They go under "photographs" under required docs, the guides on here are quite outdated to be honest, but a US passport style photo is required under civil docs, not sure what they need it at NVC for though

Our CR1 Journey:

USCIS Stage:

  • Feb 14 2019: NOA1 (NSC)
  • July 31 2019: I129f NOA1
  • Sep 19 2019: I129f NOA2 (Denied - 50 days from NOA1)
  • Sep 19 2019: I130 NOA2 (Approved - 217 days from NOA1)

NVC Stage:

  • Sep 27 2019: Sent to Department of State
  • Oct 31 2019: Case number received (34 days since sent)
  • Nov 1 2019: IV & AOS fees received & paid
  • Nov 14 2019: IV & AOS submitted
  • Dec 18 2019: All docs accepted, but one additional doc requested (5 weeks from submission)
  • Dec 18 2019: Requested doc submitted
  • Feb 19 2020: Documentarily Qualified (9 weeks from 2nd submission, 14 weeks from first submission)

Interview Stage:

  • Mar 11 2020: Interview letter received
  • Apr 1 2020: Interview date
  • Mar 17 2020: Interview cancelled due to COVID-19
  • August 3 2020: Rescheduled letter received, new appointment August 25 2020
  • August 25 2020: Visa approved at interview! (558 days from NOA1)
  • September 10 2020: Embassy received passport in mail
  • September 15 2020: Passport with visa in hand

October 11 2020: Arrived in US!

Interesting. Thank you :)

Are there any other required documents that are not listed on the NVC info pages?

I was under the assumption (based on the guide there) that we need

- Birth certificate

- Marriage certificate

- Divorce certificate of prior marriages (if applicable)

- Passport biographic data page

- Police certificate

This was everything we submitted, in terms of civil docs; just what was listed as "required" on CEAC

Awesome, so the photographs are the only thing that weren't on my list :)

Another concern I have - and that might be very country specific. I read that NVC is very picky with scans (all corners must be visible etc), but also very picky with certification stamps on the back of the documents.

In my husbands country (Iraq), it's additionally required to get all documents and translations (which must be stamped by the Translators Union) stamped by the Department of Foreign Affairs. We did all of that, but the translator union folds the top left corner of all 3 documents (e.g. birth certificate, translation, certification of translation) together, staples that corner, and places the stamp on the back of the last page over that corner.

Now I have the choice to either submit documents with a missing corner (which is visibly stamped on the back of the last page), or "invalidate" the translation by taking the stamp apart.

Any thoughts/experiences on that?

Should I expect any issues traveling to the US while I am still waiting for DQ from the NVC? I still have an active ESTA.

Coronavirus permitting.

Should be fine provided you are home in time for your interview.. I fly tomorrow morning, still waiting DQ.. don’t see any problems other than being asked if I’ve got flu symptoms at POE..

Super! many thanks and also have a safe flight!

So long as they don't try to call me while I am over in the US, I should be fine.

You’ll be fine... I’ve got a pending Expidite request and reckon I’m still able to sneak in quick visit...

best thing about coronavirus airfares are cheap as 🙌🙌🙌🙌 flights are over 50% cheaper than normal.. crazy to not visit if you’ve got the free time..

And a special message to those who think all flights in/out should be cancelled... Im planning to carry hand sanitizer and avoid the bathroom if possible, I’m perfectly fit, have been mostly home alone for a month (excluding a trip or two to the bottle shop for beverages 😬) ive got every possible vaccination, plus more up to date and zero flu symptoms... so no, I’m not a carrier of the damn virus 😂

did everyone submit scans of the front AND the back of documents like birth certificate, police certificate and marriage/divorce decree (US style (if applicable) ?

I only did for my birth certificate because it was transparent and had stuff on the back.
