I am a Conservative as well I hate how we are still in Afghanistan with no exit strategy at all. I have been to Afghanistan, had friends wounded and killed there. So I want us to stop wasting money, people, and resources in a country where we have no reason to be in right now.

As to the award part and the medical retirement..... The vehicle I was riding in was hit by a large IED on January 21, 2007 the last  weeks our unit was in Iraq. After we got back I PCS'd to Parris Island for my last 2+ years in the Marines. I was later diagnosed as suffering a TBI from that incident. So I have put together a packet with the occupants of the Humvee writing statements of endorsement for a Purple Heart. One of them is a E-8 right now, and the other is a O-5 right now. I should hear something back next month.

I want medical retirement so that I can get that Tricare, lol.

Well God bless you.

You probably first got sent back to Ramstein, Germany, when you were wounded? Then on to Joint Base Andrews? That is the route it goes now. My wife is on the receiving end at Ramstein.

Nope, didn't even get back. They just checked us to make sure there were no serious injuries, gave us some motrin, and let us rest. That was it.

That's one that that the LtCol. expanded on in his statement was that we weren't treated seriously and didn't serious medical attention. They didn't know what a mTBI injury can do to people at that time

Yeah... I hope y'all are able to get attention for that now, the TBIs, I know that like when Iran struck with missiles recently, there were many TBIs. My wife saw a LOT of them from Iraq. They are sending them all to be treated now, to Ramstein first, then back to the USA.

I remember that after the missile attack, they just kept coming and coming. A few at a time, for a few weeks. All concussions and TBIs. I know, because I always ask my wife about each mission, where they are from and what was the medical issue. I keep on top of that always. I want to know... And sometimes I see too...

Yeah at that time they just considered open wounds serious injuries at that time. So many of us were SOL because of that. The O-5 who is still in now started TBI treatment in 2018 because he started losing his hearing amid other things. We were on the right side of the vehicle which took the brunt of the damage. We are only here today because whoever planted the three 130mm rounds did it wrong, so the blast went the other way.

Because there are things that don't affect you right then but are residual effects. Such as for me I have dizziness and vertigo so bad that I can't even go to a trampoline park or a get on a kiddie ride  without getting sick.

Only after going to the VA have I started connecting the dots in regards to TBI damage, dizziness, some motor skills, and neck damage.

Yes, my wife has been explaining those things to me. And also the need to document it right away for future care... or maybe it was me that said about having to document it. Not sure. I just know that in the past if it wasn't documented right away it made it difficult to get treatment later. But that has changed?

Yeah it made it super difficult tbh with you. But also back then they didn't consider that an injury. Also young and dumb 23 year old me that had a newborn babygirl was just happy to be alive. I did try to go see mental health at the new base but they had appointments every 2 months at the least so that was out the window.

Let me know the outcome of it all, if you remember  to do that or care to take the time. I really would like to know how it all works out for you in the end. It is sad that you were damaged in that way, serving the country, and then there are so many hoops to jump through to get care. Too many brick walls pop up, that get frustrating bumping one's head up against to get answers and help Bureaucracy gets in the way. Too much red tape.
