Fun Thread Slim. Thank you for starting it. I read some of your "hot looking wife" posts. It sounds to me like she is going through "adoration withdrawal." For a woman, beauty is power whether she lives in the USA or FSU. The difference is that in the FSU, beautiful women are more openly adored and sugar daddies are more common and tolerated. The american brand of feminism has never really been embraced by FSU women. In fact, ask your wife how she feels about american feminists. Indeed, ask her if she thinks american women in general are very feminine. Anyway, I digress. You could wait for your wife's adoration withdrawal to abate with age. However, she looks rather young in your photo together so this could be a very long wait. The waiting option is probably not very practical. The other option is to give her the adoration she craves. Not all the time but enough so that she is certain that you find her THE HOTTEST WOMAN ON THE PLANET!!!!! Ham it up. Lay it on thick. Twice as much as you would for any american woman. The trick, as you alluded to in some of your posts, is to do it in such a way that she sees your adoration as coming from "Slim the Lover" and not "Slim the Husband." Good Luck. Of course, it goes without saying that you can ignore my comments if you find them not helpful.

I'll see what I can do. I'm trying, and my initials are BS! There's some truth in my adoration, though, I just want her to realize that the way she "did business" before isn't going to work for her now. I have no problems complimenting the ladies!!!

I think this is the definition of marriage isnt it????

:lol::lol::lol:

Nah, they have to be eaten raw, in a restaurant that's two hundred years old and served by a waiter who saw Maupassant alive! That's the way they eat 'em in Paris!

Lets all start eating like the french then, snails all around.

Cant say I enjoy oysters too much the occasional smoked one is ok.

If im going to eat something that is uncooked I prefer sushi or sashimi..

Love snails!!!!!!!

Oyster shooters rock!

Sashimi only!

And I don't like any soup, including borsch... Call me Russian after it!

Ah, to be Parisian. To sip on coffee, smoke, eat delicious sea food and do nothing more than write short-stories or paint pictures all day. I've gotta get back there!

:yes::yes: That's the way to live!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is going to be the "official" Russia Forum Cultural Awareness thread. Post about little things that are different between U.S./FSU couples. Could be widely-held superstitions, could be something small that you or your S/O do.

Here is another cultural difference for you. Russians like their saunas rough (among other things). While traveling in Russia I was invited to a Russian bath. It was insanely hot and I had the hell beat out me with these tree branch things. A couple of times I wanted to scream but I thought that would appear unmanly. I did feel relaxed afterwards but it was the kind of relaxation one feels after a beating has ended. :P

Oh god it was soooooo funny, i almost fell off the chair

actually all russian people love those tree branches ( mostly men only) and they do sell them in russian community in NY :P

I shared the same exact experience with you, except when it was done I ran out of there so fast I hit my head on the top of the door frame, which was insanely low. I think I heard some laughing mixed with the words "Americanksi" and "durak".

I grew up with steam baths, wasn't really a new thing to me. I like dry saunas more though these days.

Here's a new one:

No empty bottles on the table. If we're drinking beer or wine, (or anything else for that matter) once the bottle is empty, it goes on the floor, never on the table.

After we're done, there's a "bottle graveyard" on the floor next to the table. Usually I get in trouble for not cleaning them up. (Mine go directly into the garbage, or stay on the table so I don't trip on them and knock them over!)

I'm American and I don't let empty bottles pile up on the table. Other than University drinking contests, I can't say that I remember seeing that anywhere.

Sure, I don't let them pile up on the table, but with my wife, they immdediately hit the floor. It's bad to have empty bottles on top of the table. They never must touch the table, only the floor.

Usually there's an empty bottle or two on the table before I'll start (or at a bar, the waitress will start) to clear them off. With my wife, they should never touch the top of the table once they're empty.

Empty bottles on the table I will have to watch for that. Since my wife got pregnant no drinking of any alcohol so no wine bottles.

What I have noticed is I get home from work and there are no clean glasses anywhere in the house, she has an upstairs glass, an office glass, a living room glass, and a kitchen glass, all half filled with water. I ask her why and she says they are dirty so I tell her that all this water around is making the humidity higher in the house. :D :D

Yes, it's an old drinking tradition - when there are empty bottles on the table it means there'll be no space for full bottles, no prosperity in the house. There is something about Russians and full and empty reservoirs - bad luck to meet a person carrying an empty bucket. When the bucket is full, it's for good.

And I get in trouble for not washing all the dirty glasses! I have one dirty glass, and usually not even that becauase I drink from the bottle (old bachelorhood traditions die hard!) but still, I'm the one in trouble for not washing the glasses I didn't even use.

Aha! So that's the superstition behind it. I know, with Russians, there's always more to it than just tradition for some stupid reason. It's because it means something. We do stuff here because that's the way it's done or because it's "polite" to do it that way. In Russia, you've gotta do it that way because if you don't, you cause bad luck for everyone!

Another one for you: no dusting or vacuuming or swiping in the house ofter dawn, or the prosperity will be swiped off too.

There are few more :)
