Employment Process With Green Card

I received my IR1 visa and entered the US last December but am yet to receive the green card in the post. I was told by the immigration officer when i arrived that the passport stamp was sufficient until it arrived. I am 5 days short of the 120 days delivery time before i can file a case for a lost green card. I have paid the $220 USCIS immigration fee payment.

I have been offered a job, a contract position but it's a start.

Without physical green card can i still take the job?

I have a social security number from a previous immigration visa i held which i am guessing is still valid, do they expire?

What form of evidence will i need to show the employer?

Social security number never expires, it's yours for life, so use the same one. The entry stamp in your passport is proof you are eligible for employment. Some employers are not very bright when it comes to knowing this, but hopefully you have a decent hiring manager. But you are legally allowed to work, and already have a SS number, so you are ahead of the game.

Here on a K1? Need married and a Certificate in hand within a few hours? I'm here to help. Come to Vegas and I'll marry you Vegas style!!   Visa Journey members are always FREE for my services. I know the costs involved in this whole game of immigration, and if I can save you some money I will!

thanks for the advice, my SS card has 'Valid For Work Only With DHS Authorization" do you think that matters now i am a permanent resident?

My previous SS card was from a K1 visa and adjustment of status.

You could go to the SS office and update your status with them to receive an unrestricted social security card if you wish.
