Questions: N-400 Name Change Logistics

Hi All,

As I am waiting for my N-400 interview, I have a few questions regarding name change through naturalization.  I opted to change my name completely (both first and last names).

- I understand that only your new name is printed on the certificate of naturalization.  Will I receive a certificate of name change as well at the oath ceremony?  I need an official documentation of my name change listing both my old and new names.

- Since I am going through a name change, the signature that will be printed (taken from the bio appointment) will be different from the new signature.  Which signature do I use to sign the certificate?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

If you are changing both names, i believe you will go through judicial oath ceremony during which a judge will make a decision. It could happen the same day of the interview or several weeks or months later depending on the jurisdiction. they will give you a formal document of name change.

where would your signature from biometrics be printed?

You would probably sign the one reflecting the new name on the certificate unless you are like me. i sign on my native language (not english alphabets) everywhere. I can keep using that no matter what name do i change to as it simply looks like just messed up curves/arcs/shapes. If my name is Alberto, my sign is like this which i can use here even if i change to John.
