Do what you think is best for yourself, honesty is always the policy, in this my case sometimes.

Be careful very careful of what you answer on the medical history questionnaire!!!

I stated that I had a bout with depression over 30 years ago and treatment was one pill a day and overnight stays at the hospital psych ward, I went to work during the day. And now for that declaration I need to get detailed transcripts.

I also wrote that 22 years ago I was a problem drinker, but I haven't had a drink since my then wife got pregnant with my daughter who is now 21 years old. And for giving those replies I need documentation from my family who has known me for less than 10 years stating whether or not I am a psychologically dangerous entity to myself or others and I must now go through a battery of tests to show that my liver and whatever else is alcohol free and I am healed or on the mend. The two declarations are the reason the Dr. told me that it is likely that our petition will be denied. So right now I will do what is asked. I will also prepare for the denial by composing a little rant to present to the consulate ####### if I happen to see her, I owe her one, a big one. I was thinking that I should go see the other Dr. here and get a second opinion and use the most favourable one.

On the good side, we have planned a get-together for the July 4th celebration, will be there for that whole week. I hope to be able to pass through customs with no problem.

The above is my situation only not yours, don't stress over the possibility of denial because of past performances just fortify yourself with all necessary documentation. If the Dr. doesn't utter denial you're greased lightning.

That's terrible! I'm so sorry that happened to you! Can I ask where you had your medical? I'm a little worried because I too have a history of hospitalization for depression, except it was only 6 years ago. I wonder if I should mention it, and if I don't, I wonder if there's any way for them to look it up, or if they'd even bother.

They can't look into your medical history. That's privileged information between the doctor and patient. That is for the US. I don't know about other countries. Unless, there was an incident involving police that would have some medical analysis documented with the incident, a bout with depression wouldn't be known. There's a saying, "If they don't ask, don't tell". ;)

Hi TheATeam

My medical was done in Ottawa at the Riverside hospital, everything went well except for this glitch.

It is your call, but I think the best thing is to tell the truth, with documentation you can prove that you are well, and withheld information tend to rear its ugly head and bite you in the butt later. I signed 3 waivers before I left the Dr. office so she will be contacting 3 other Drs., less work for me.

If you do tell I would suggest that you contact the Dr. that treated you asking for a letter stating their past and present analysis of your heath, which is what my Dr. is asking for before she completes my evaluation.

I don’t think they can get any medical information on you unless you sign a waiver giving them permission

I’m now paying for the lifestyle of the past, believe me there are no regrets. Everything will be in place by the time my interview date arrives, this is nothing to get stressed over.

No medical exam required when you enter the country illegally.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Yeah, I agree that honesty is the best policy. I just wonder if it will be much of a hassle for me. I haven't seen or been treated by any of the doctors I saw at that period of my life in about 6 years. The doctor I'm seeing now is new as well and so hasn't treated me for any depression as I've been fine for so long. I guess that's a judgement call huh? If they end up asking for more info I guess I'll have to try and get it. I just want this to be as quick and painless as possible. I know there's no such thing as really "quick" in this process, but you know what I mean! (Quicker than a year would be nice! :P)

So wait, "have you ever had.." "have you ever suffered.." --- aren't those to be set "yes" only when you have something diagnozed and documented in medical records?

You are right they can't look into your medical history without your permission, but what happens if you at some point let it slip out that you had problems. As for if the don't ask don't tell, the question is asked right on the form so it was answered.

LuckyStrick

Becoming an illegal is the third of three options that are open to everyone, and not the one that I am at this point contemplating. The other two are as you know 1. going through the process as we all are and 2. Bringing the Petitioner to the beneficiaries, in our case that wouldn't be a bad move.

TheATeam

The worse thing you can do is make my reality yours since my doctor is not or may not be the one you see, and yours may see nothing there to be worried about, remember mine is going a bit overboard looking well past the 30 year mark for a reason that I could be denied. All you can do is be prepared in advance. "Quick" now that is something I gave up on a while ago because of the RCMP certification which has placed us as April filers rather than January filers, instead of having a interview date in July we are looking at September or October if things don't get worse.

Uzume

With their looking back to the age of 16 they have a lot of dredging up to do, there are about 17155 days gone by since my 16th birthday if they want to go through every one I'm willing as long as I we can do in the States.

Reba

I am hoping that I can do as you did, but this doctor I saw seems to want to dwell on the fact that once regardless of the passage of time I had a problem, modern history seem to have no bearing on her mental block.

I am glad that you sailed through without issue and are now where you want to be.
