State ID- confused

They kept just thinking that our I-797 noa1 wasn't good because their list of documents just says I-797a, and they couldn't find the a on the I-797 so they weren't happy.

We are just going to wait until we get the EAD, I don't wanna hear things like "need an extension on your visa" again, even tho you know we have a K-1 and can't get an extension on that, or "maybe if you get another I-94" even tho we don't have the EAD/AP combo card yet.

I just am going to make it simple and wait until we get the EAD.

Nope that is the whole problem. The system they use to verify your current status (SAVE) does accept I-797. It is not a standard entry and they need to pull out the book to get the correct code. By bringing the print out of the website, you may actually convince them they need to get up and look for "the book".

^^ what he said

The REAL ID Act itself is very clear on documents to prove a lawful status:

Quote

(ix) has a pending application for adjustment of status to that of an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence in the United States or conditional permanent resident status in the United States.

However a lot of states don't have it listed on their shortlist of documents probably because of laziness. There are some people who have success when they speak to the DMV location's supervisor and show them the actual printout of the REAL ID Act that mentions this, I believe there are some examples of this working on VJ.

The one thing out of all of this that just has me almost laughing is that my bank needs state ID since state ID has pic+married name all on one piece of evidence.  For some reason they won't accept passport+marriage certificate as proof of name change

No offence but sounds like you need a new bank.

It's a great bank, for some reason they just have decided to dig their feet in on this one policy, and I have no idea why.  I'm actually tempted to call up and argue it because even at one point one person said marriage cert isn't a recognized document showcasing name change.

Try the old "not allowed to discriminate based on religion, sex, or national origin" argument. I used to get people to change their mind with that argument.

That's a big downside of K1, the DMV employee might be correct. No ID until EAD or Green card is common.

I also went there within my 90 days period and with my notice of action for the adjustment of status but they refused to process the state ID because they said I didn’t have a 12 months + length of stay here smh. I was so disappointed ☹️ I hope I’ll be able to get a learners permit or stage ID when I receive my EAD.🤞🏽

We went back with the EAD card and got a state ID card with no problem

She's on my bank account, but they would only add her with her maiden name since she has no id yet that has her pic+married name, and first thing with that will be her state id, need the EAD to get state id to add her to my bank account, also need the EAD to get her ss card changed from maiden name to married name.

They all work together in conjunction with the EAD

My husband and I went through the same thing 🤦🏽‍♀️They won’t open an account for me with my new name and marriage certificate is unacceptable. So we can open a joint account if I have a photo ID with my new name on it apparently😭

Yeah for some reason banks will dig their heels in on some policies, why we just decided to wait until we got the EAD in to get the state ID, got the state ID and there was no issue.
