Length of time to see progress in case?

hey VJ,

From my understanding, any I-130 benefit request that is sent to Dallas takes 6-8 months to see it being approved. It has been 6 months for me so far, so I'm heading into the 7th. After you initially sent your package in, did you ever see any updates at all in those first 7 months? I submitted it in August 15, and still haven't seen anything yet.  I am just making sure that my case should have had something done by now that hasn't been done, so that it's not being prolonged...

Any info would be appreciated, thanks

What service center currently has your I-130?  Here is the current average processing time for each service center as reported by other VJ members:

Dallas

Dallas is not a service center.

What service center does your NOA1 show?

Btw, I'm not sure where you got the '6 months' from.  I think most of them are taking upwards of one year.

Whoops. My apologies.

I sent it into Phoenix, as I'm from Florida, this says to send there: https://www.uscis.gov/i-130-addresses

Once it is sent there, I don't know what service center it is sent to? How do I even check?

In terms of 6 months, I mean I've heard that it takes 6-8 months for USCIS to approve the case and send it to NVC.  I heard the process in whole takes 12-13 months, and could take a little longer. I just haven't seen any update at all for 6 months now, so I'm not even sure if they are working on it?  Is it normal for them to have a "Submitted Date" (mine was August 15, 2019) and not have any communication from them for over 6 months?

All petitions are sent to lockboxes, and then distributed to service centers.  For example, Phoenix and Dallas are lockboxes.  Nebraska and Potomac are service centers.

Did you receive an NOA1?  If so, the service center that is processing the petition will be listed on that document.  Without knowing which service center your petition is at, there is no meaningful way to project processing times.

Oh I see.  Yeah I did receive an NOA1. Unfortunately, I don't know what I did with that document. Is there any way of checking which service center I have on https://my.uscis.gov/account ?

Not that I know of.  Do you have your receipt number though?  Usually begins with three letters, such as WAC, MSC etc.

A piece of advice:  purchase a manila file folder and use it to store all immigration-related documents.  You will need them.  Also, make copies of anything that you send.  Did you keep a copy of the petition?

I just called USCIS. They say that Nebraska has my case.

And yes I do have a folder that contains all copies. That's the only document I've misplaced.

Nebraska is taking about 348 days on average per other VJ members.

So go to the "Processing Times" on the blue band at the top of this page, and you can see which date Nebraska is currently processing, per VJ data.

You can also check at USCIS. gov for 'official' processing times.

WOAH.... Jeez!  Alright and then we're looking at another 120 days or so of it sitting in NVC before it is complete ontop of that.

I remember seeing in 2018 it was taking roughly 12-13 months Total (with NVC) to finish the whole thing.  Now it can take 16+.. arrrggg

Processing times for each step fluctuate greatly.  In 2018, fiancee petition approvals were taking ~ 6 months.  This year it is 3-4 months, but other steps in the K-1 process are now slower.  Consulate/interview times also vary greatly.
