My boyfriend’s wedding dress unveiled my own shortcomings over masculinity

My boyfriend’s wedding dress pushed me to perform a scrupulous inventory of my deepest ideas about masculinity and helped me identify my shortfalls as a woman who wants to help rewrite gender norms. As I went through this exercise, I chatted with a handful of girlfriends about it, who could all identify their own small hang-ups with masculinity: their need for men who are bigger and taller than they are, or who are better than them at sports, or who don’t cry in front of them.

As we interrogated our feelings about masculinity, we recognized gaps between our ideals and reality. I’m quick to blame men for perpetuating toxic behavior, but in this case, I, the woman, was part of the problem.

Did you not have problems with dating apps popping up?

To be honest it did not seem that abnormal, must be spending too much time reading the Graun.

No, I was looking on my phone. No dating apps, just checked again. I currently have an ad at the bottom of the screen for a Maserati.

Well it may be an either or situation, presumably you are at least looking for a car.

I am, but I hadn't considered a Maserati. I'm still thinking small(-ish) SUV.

Quite attractive. The fuel economy looks not great though. And the idea of a a Maserati SUV is such a weird one -- like a Lambo truck!

I thought it was ugly, but just goes to show, I assumed it was designed for the American market.

Anyway not on my shopping list so it does not matter.

Lamborghini was a tractor manufacturer.

PS Driven in by the wind, there is a lot of snow to move out there.
