221g K1 Visa - Proof of Relationship

Its heart breaking that after waiting for almost a year (9-10 months), you appear for an interview and CO without looking at your documents, hands you over the 221g white slip, requesting for additional relationship proof, including but not limited to notarised statement from both, as to how we met, wedding reservation, guest list, etc etc.   We submitted the requested documents on 7th February and the status showing, case last updated on: 11 Feb and there's no further update on the matter.

When browsing thru other fellow members, journey, you notice they updating their stories, however, post their initial updates, no follow-up or updates for others to draw experience from their journey on the matter.   Its so frustrating that once you hit 221g, you're at the mercy of the consulate in question and have no way to trace it or find out about the action being taken.

I hope some would help by shedding some light with their personal experience.

I understand your frustration. Not that you want to hear this, but it's just the nature of the "beast." You could read other posts for weeks and you will find that each embassy handles things differently than another. Some push some rules hard and fast and others don't even ask. The disparity is in the history of the embassy. Each country is different in how they cooperate or they do not cooperate with needed security checks and the like. Though India is a little tougher then some, it has a long way to becoming a country that is on the "watch list," where some wait months if not a year to get a final disposition on their case. There is an old saying "the man with the gold makes the rules."  These are situations where this saying fits. Don't let this set you back. Complete what they are asking for and be done with it so you can get a visa and move on with your life.

We understand. My now husband entered on K1. We interviewed in London and received the 221G as well. We were not told why only that someone would be in contact via email. We were emailed later that week and requested a document be sent. We did as asked and waited. Thankfully for us we found out about 2- 3 weeks later that his visa was issued. In all honesty that wait was the most stressful of any. Your fate lies in their hands. Do not check your status daily as it will make you crazy. Many others have been in your shoes and have been successful. Take a deep breath and play the waiting game. Its hard but worth it! Good luck!
