The Trump administration barred a top US disease expert from speaking freely to the public after he warned the coronavirus might be impossible to contain

https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-anthony-fauci-trump-admin-stops-discussion-2020-2?utm_source=reddit.com

  • The Trump administration has barred Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), from speaking publicly about the novel coronavirus without approval, according to The New York Times.
  • Fauci is one of the top experts in the US on infectious diseases, and his sober public messages have contrasted with President Donald Trump's optimistic claims about the impact of the illness.
  • An NIAID spokesperson told Business Insider the claim in the Times report is "not true."
  • Experts have criticized the Trump administration for effectively muzzling Fauci with the US facing its most serious public-health crisis in years.

I’m blaming the MSM and all the liberals who will do or say  ANYTHING in the hopes to make it seem like Trump has failed.  Their TDS is a sad thing to watch from afar.

I don't blame anyone. The President has little influence over the stock market, one way or another.

And yet you make two posts in succession talking about how the DOW is falling, and how Trump’s admin is  preventing the spread of info about the impossibility of containing the CV.

I wonder why no one consulted Lysol about the coronavirus?

Human Coronaviruses are not a new thing. As I said earlier, this will be the 5th strain of Coronavirus (that we know of) to make the jump from an animal species to humans.

I'd point out that while Lysol claims to kill "human coronavirus" there is actually no proof via scientific testing that it would kill "novel coronavirus" as this is a new strain. It is thought, more like assumed to be effective, but we have nothing to go by so far. In my experience dealing with dad's superbugs, I'd rather rely on bleach than the concentrations in Lysol anyday. Companies like Lysol can make such claims without any actual science to back it up. Clorox does make specific bleach products that have been scientifically tested to kill almost anything. These are not the store brand products though - their normal products (such as wipes) continue to make untested claims like Lysol or even Purell does.

Where did you get that piece of information? If you contract this particular Coronavirus, you are 10 times more likely to die. If you mean more people die from the flu every year, that would be accurate, but not as a percentage of people who get the flu.

Edit to specify the new strain of Coronavirus

Estimates place it around 1-2% and that's quite a large number, and that's with the current faulty data. Statistically the vast number of those dying are the elderly and immuno-compromised (or those with other health problems - health problems which aren't even very complex and basic for the average American). It is also quite contagious, though still not as contagious as measles and not as fatal as other high-level infections. That's not to say that probably the vast number of persons contracting it won't recover and be okay, and hopefully it will be mild. If it is severe there is a good chance you could die, simply because there's not much to treat you with. There's simply too many unknowns, where we do know a good bit about the flu. The emerging new statistic is the possibility of human reinfection after recovery and even the chance pets could be infected.

I don't see people being scared to death. There is concern. There is a lack of information. There is hoarding of items. The market has little to do with being scared, it has to do with worldwide supply disruption, lack of confidence in certain things, and what will likely be countrywide disruption.

Ten times more than what? Everyone is 100% likely to die. Comparative data is only relevant in context. The relatively small number of cases and the likelihood that people with the mildest symptoms are not included in the data set yet makes it very difficult to give accurate data on how likely any given person is to die.

Just for context, in 2009, the first data set released for the novel H1N1 influenza strain gave a mortality rate of 7%. The aggregate data today now has it at 0.1%. It was extremely serious for some people obviously, but many people who contracted the virus had little more than a runny nose. Those people were not included in the initial data.

The current data is really not expansive or complete enough to show how this will progress with any degree of accuracy. The early data seems to show that this "new" strain hits the elderly particularly hard, and it has a very poor prognosis if it progresses to the point of pneumonia. It's still difficult to account for individual variables. For example things like access to health care, or even how the relatively high smoking rate in China may be contributing. Smoking is the biggest co-factor for morbidity and mortality in any respiratory illness and the smoking rate is ~50% among males in China.

It's difficult to say, since we have extremely high vaccine compliance for the flu nowadays. Without a vaccine, there used to be some really bad flu seasons. I think for the new Coronavirus, without a vaccine, the rate of complications in vulnerable people will probably remain high. It's more a case of everyone being vulnerable right now since we have never been exposed to this virus. The potential to overwhelm health care resources is very high, and that does make it worse for those who get serious symptoms.

5,000 people died from the flu last month in the US.  5,900 people died from heart disease in the past 48 hours.  Almost 6,000 fetuses were aborted in the past two days as well.  This just in the US, not worldwide.  Get back to us when the US death toll from Covid-19 reaches 100.
