During the Democratic presidential debate in South Carolina Tuesday, former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg accused the president of defunding the CDC, claiming the result is that “we don’t have the organization that we need.”

 

 

On Wednesday, Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., tweeted, “The Trump Administration has slashed CDC funding and left positions charged with managing pandemics vacant. The budget request for Coronavirus funding shows they still don’t understand the magnitude of the threat.”

Asked about the criticism at a House budget hearing Wednesday, Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar said that, “during the president’s tenure, every part of our preparedness and infectious disease program activity has been enhanced and expanded.”

Azar went on the say the president’s budget proposals are just the jumping-off point for budget negotiations.

It is the Guardian so they can not be expected to know that Gunnison is not in the Mountains, but it is a story I had come across a few years ago, there are limited ways in so they were able to do this, now back then and how I came across the story was to do with people travelling by train, you were either quarantined or went through in sealed carriages.

There's a doctor on twitter that's been self-quarantined in her home. She sounds as if she is pretty sick, and presented with 100F fever and suspected she had been in contact with infected persons that were being tested. They refused to test her because they told her she needed to have 100.4F. She has continued to deteriorate while waiting for news. They confirmed her suspicions and now are going to test her... now other family members with her are sick.

 

Tests are expensive, these are not rapid tests which are usually cheaper. Ever looked at the EOBs for bloodwork these days? I have a pile of those things... my insurance has been shelling out thousands this year for everything they've tested me for.

 

Insurance will likely eat the cost of the test, with no cost to the patient. That is not to say there won't be other fees associated with your insurance which includes hospital copays and of course the deductible if any.

If it is complicated testing there may well be a limit on how many places can do it and how many they could process.

The Chinese Level-4 biolab was working on splicing novel coronaviruses with HIV-1. And then a new virus that is a novel coronavirus with gene sequences from HIV pops up in some bat soup, in a market right next door to the lab. One would think they would have worked out an antivirus to go along with the viral work they were doing.
