Curious on where the cheapest short term insurance is, any suggestions?  Just using it to bridge the gap for 2 people (wife+spouse) we are finding around $66/month

You need to check not only the premium but the specific terms of the policies and who is underwriting it. You can get some cheap policies that may be underwritten by a company with poor ratings .. then it could be “cheap” but useless ..

That is going to be a very bare-bones plan with extremely high deductibles/co-pays.

Looks like the best bet for the near future is going to be to get some form of short term healthcare insurance to atleast have something while we figure out exactly what we are going to be doing for the long term.

Not the best, but better than nothing.

Have you looked into health share plans? They are ACA exempt of course but a great deal more affordable than the vast majority of health insurance. It’s like cost sharing your health care expenses with a huge group of people. You can enrol all year. I should think this might actually satisfy the public charge determination more so than an ACA health plan that’s been reduced with tax credits.

Liberty is one that comes to mind but research what’s available in your state.

Edit to add: health share plans are not subject to the law about preexisting conditions and you will likely be rejected if you have a preexisting condition. You’d have to look into it though.

Main things we have looked into are regular healthcare plans, and short term/catastrophic healthcare plans.

Will look into health share plans.

Edit: looked into them, sorry those types of plans are not the types of plans we are looking for, seems like short term/catastrophic will be the best bet for us now until we decide for something on the long term between now and our GC interview.  Thanks for the suggestion tho.
