In-person interpreter needed at biometrics appointment?

Hi,

My wife isn't great with understanding spoken English, so we are planning to use an in-person interpreter for our AOS interview when the time comes.

Is an in-person interpreter needed for the biometrics appointment? I've read that she has to raise her right hand and swear an oath (obviously spoken in English).

Thank you!

Hi bjh

We had our biometric in January. My wife was called back and I was not able to go in with her but was told that they would call me in if they needed an interpreter. All we did was a picture and finger prints no oath at this time. There was a small form we filled out as well but I was able to help with that.

Did my biometrics yesterday. I think it’s very doable without interpreter. There’s no oath sworn, there simply a notice hung up that says both in English and Spanish that you swear your application is truthful by signing your signature at the end of it all. The technician walks you through the whole thing without much words.

The only thing that could be tricky is the form that is filled in at the beginning, at my location that was done for me by the lady at the front desk but I read that at a majority of places one has to fill it in themselves. This is information like the receipt numbers, what kind of application (e.g. I-485, I-765) and biographical information like hair colour.
