Well #######... Until you asked me that question I didn't see the problem.  Sooo this is what happens when you take your time filling out USCIS forms and then an update happens inbetween.  We have been putting this packet together since we got married early February and they hadn't updated that form yet.  I never realized that they updated the form so with that new form it makes sense that you would submit an i944.  Welp now guess I just gotta wait for the rejection letter to update the packet.  The previous version of that form and the instructions never even mention the i944.

Man I feel dumb now.

Guess I'll get to work on 2 new forms now.  Thanks for the advice and hope someone reading over this in the future can learn from my costly mistakes.

It sucks, but not the end of the world.  That happened to me too! We got married mid Feb and I filled out the whole first version of the 485 - then didn't get the marriage certificate back in time to make the 2/24 cutoff and had to fill out the whole new 485 and the new forms - had I not done it twice, I might not have noticed the differences either as they really are very similar.

It's hard not to beat yourself up, I certainly have been for getting mine rejected the first time, but this process is SO hard and SO confusing, and you get such inconsistent messages (just like you did when you called USCIS), its hard NOT to make a mistake.  Anyway, you know it now, rather than in 2 weeks, you can get the new ones all ready and resend the packet right after it comes back - wait until it comes back because there will be a piece of paper attached to the top that they will ask you to include when you resubmit, and you can also reuse all of the other stuff you assembled.

Keep discussing things on these forums too, they are honestly so much more helpful than so much of the government stuff.

Lol what an april fools joke for us haha.  Well good thing is I was actually able to get the USPS to intercept the package before it gets delivered so no rejection.  Just back to more paperwork.  Thank you for all your help guys, glad we had this discussion, if it weren't for yall  I would've been more surprised with a rejection of an outdated form than the i944 haha.

Hey guys,

I'm working on the I-944 form ahead of time. (So confusing!)

My fiances K-1 interview was cancelled due to Corona, but we'll reschedule as soon as the offices open up.

On Part 3 of Household income, am I supposed to list him with no USA income, or just my income as the USC?

Also, are the debts and liabilities the immigrant's ( I know the K-1 is non-immigrant) or the USC?

From what I understand/the directions seem to indicate, you need to list anyone in the household which would include him, and just don't list income for him. I listed my husband first since this is his form, then me.  Debts and liabilities are just for the person filing out the form (not the USC).

Heres a question though.  I see in assets it says household and household members assets.  But in liabilities it says "your."  Do I need to list my (the sponsors) debts? my wife has no debts.

Correct! The assets is for the household, the debts are specific to "you" (the immigrant, not the USC).

Thank you! I hate these forms. Lol

We are all learning in the process - I was close to make the same mistake... Hopefully you can try and send the form and append it to your package ??

I think I saw someone in this forum tried that approach.  I was able to actually have USPS intercept it and return it back to me so they wont even get it.  I'll then just take out the old forms, and put in the new ones with the I944.

Okay and WTH are you supposed to put for the English section?! She grew up speaking English

I left that section completely blank, my husband is a native Spanish speaker but has no certifications of any kind. I wonder if you could ask one of the people further in the thread, or in the March filers thread, what they did for that? Some of them have spouses that are Native English speakers.

In the I-944 instructions, it says to provide documentation even for the immigrant's native language. What I'm understanding with this is that regardless of their native language (English, Spanish, etc.) it still needs to be put in the section.

"Native English speakers, or other language if applicable, must provide documentation of language proficiency including language certifications. Evidence of language certification may include high school diplomas and college degrees showing that the native language was studied for credit."

In my case, my wife is a native Spanish speaker, so I'm using her high school diploma as the certification that they're asking for just to show that she studied the language for credit. In addition, she's currently attending an English school in the US so I also have that included.

But wouldn’t you already have been including her diploma for the education section? So would an English speaking person. However, if they don’t have a diploma, I’m not sure what they could list to “prove” they speak English.

Okay thanks, and sorry one more for ya.  Did y'all really append 12 months of checking and savings statements.  That alone is the equivalent of a small forest lol.

I did not.  I didn’t because my salary is well over the guidelines and it indicates that if you are well over you do not need to provide more information in that section. I know some other people who have been accepted did not either. Not sure if we might end up getting an RFE later. I would say if you’re including it in the chart and/or if there’s any question to whether your income is sufficient, include it - I agree. It’s SO much paper.
