That is such a shame......it has such profound consequences for everyone involved......other than the agent.

DoS warns against them but if you don’t have access on your own to the internet in the first place... you can miss that. Definitely many unscrupulous people. Some of the stories I’ve heard are horrendous.

Maybe somebody does not know about it at the application stage, they certainly do if selected.

My understanding is it actually happens in a minority of cases, and they usually involve “agents”, as in the two examples above.

Oh I see. I probably just ended up reading same type of topics then.. involving agents/lawyer always seems to complicate things...

Thank you for replying

by play Imeant play the dv lottery online

I think the issue here is, even the DV lottery isn’t a simple push of a button, you still need to uploads various documents etc and it clearly has written on it to list all family members etc..

there’s really no excuse for you omitting your kids, not just on the DV application but on the DS260 also. Not to mention that your now in the US and left your kids behind..

time to lawyer up, there’s a fair chance you’ll loose your GC or your kids or both..

OP has admitted they did wrong and (unlike many we see on VJ) have not tried to defend what they did. I am not sure of country of origin but I know there are a number of countries, particularly those where internet access is not widespread, where people have to travel to an Internet cafe and “agents” fill in DV entries for people. I would not be surprised if that is the type of person who OP said told him he didn’t need to add the kids, and that OP may not even have been able to read the original instructions himself as a result  (this doesn’t excuse the later actions). Unfortunately these “agents” have been responsible for a lot of problems with DV selectees. I’m not sure we need to be overly harsh to people who may not be as savvy, especially before arriving in the US, as many on these forums are.

This is very correct, my now wife from colombia, was told by a neighbor, she did not need to go thru the trouble I was putting her thru, with a K-1. he could get her a visa with no problems. She almost believed him over me.

Its one thing when people are oblivious or scammed which happens so often, OP however, stated he knew the rules and proceeded to disregard them. People like this are the reason that those who legitimately try and immigrate to the US have such problems. On top of that to leave an infant behind with basically no chance of being able to bring them over is mind boggling. I agree with @Cathi that they deserve to have their immigration benefits revoked

I believe it is harder to immigrate from a developed country, like germany, or england, than from some other countries.

People sometimes are advised to not mention children because some places ask for an affidavit of support for DV interviewees and if you have 3 kids and don't know someone in the US it get hard to get the visa.  Agents are all about getting you to use them to "help" you. Some even retain your entry info so you have to pay them a second fee to "collect" your winning entry.  I could tell some real horror stories about what was happening in Nigeria when it was still a participating country.  Leaving children with family is very common in some cultures.  Their concept of family is very extended compared to the US version.

Kind of like how people in Nigeria and other countries are ill-advised to lie about their marital status in order to increase their chances of getting a tourist visa.....then later when applying for an immigrant visa, they cannot explain what happened to that "marriage."

Diversity Visa has specific nationalities which are eligible to apply (using a formula based on oversubscription of IVs by country), and currently it is a mix of first world and developing countries.

We all know this happens with tourist visas as well where the agent tries to "help them out" by saying that they are married or have kids. When the exact opposite is the case

You need photos, I think passport numbers too, but the application won’t submit without photos.

I am guessing you have been on these forums long enough to know countless immigrants, especially from developing countries, leave young children behind when they move.

i just came in this forum
