It's pretty rare and Montreal is slow to get back to emails etc.  Why the expedite?

Hi- it is on the basis of both medical and financial hardship for my family. We’ve already submitted documents and have at least another month to go for that but were hoping we could obtain an interview faster.

Do you have an expedite in with montreal or with the NVC?  If you've submitted to NVC there isn't anything more you can do.

TBH medical hardship may be a hard one to prove when Canada has a single payer health care system unless it's the USC needing their spouse to look after them?

I have a related question and didn't want to start a new thread.

We were granted an expedite at the NVC due to financial hardship. Now with the delayed interviews due to Covid it appears we won't get the visa in time to avoid this hardship. Is anyone aware of a contact number we could call to plead our case to the Montreal consulate general? Has anyone had success getting an interview expedited at the Montreal CG?

I as the sponsor requested an expedited interview directly with the US Consulate in Montreal through US Citizen Services. I asked based on needing a surgery that was denied while I was working in Canada. I worked for an international organization in Montreal for 3 years and saw multiple surgeons for knee replacements but was told I was too young. I have seen a surgeon here who has said "You should have had them both done years ago."  I was answered by the Consulate in 72 hours asking for documentation to prove my claims. I sent copies of everything from 4 doctors in Montreal as well as from my doctor here.

They answered back the next day that it was reviewed by a Consular Officer and approved my wife for an expedited appointment. They said "You will be provided with the necessary instructions regarding your appointment as soon as we are able to do so."

A week later we got the email from the NVC saying

We previously notified you of the date and time of your immigrant visa interview at the U.S.Embassy/Consulate General in MONTREAL, CAN.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have to cancel this interview. We will schedule a new interview appointment as soon as possible and notify you of the date and time. There is no need for you to take action at this time.

Then another week we got this from the NVC.

"The U.S. Embassy/Consulate General in MONTREAL, CAN approved your request for expedited processing of your immigrant visa application. The National Visa Center sent your immigrant visa application to the U.S. Embassy/Consulate General in MONTREAL, CAN for their action. The Embassy/Consulate General will contact you soon to schedule a visa interview."

That was 10 days ago and we have heard nothing since. Has anyone any experience with this? There seems to be not much information on how an expedited appointment is processed in Montreal.

I have an opportunity to get one replaced mid November but am hesitant to commit until I see some movement. This by the way will be my wife's second time to come to the US. She had a green card that we voluntarily surrendered because we were going to live in Canada for my job. I had no idea that we would be under a new regime and have to go through this whole thing all over again....

The only thing I can say is have the USC email US Citizen Services at montreal-acs@state.gov

If they do not respond in 72 hours then they are basically denying your request. Good luck! This whole process is so broken now.

Does anyone know how to send an expedite request to the Montreal consulate? Is there a general email not specifically for USC requests?

Our DQ date is Jan 14. I don’t want to get into too much details but my situation at my parents’ home is becoming bad and I’m going to see a psychiatrist soon for a psychological evaluation for trauma. I really don’t know how much longer I can handle living in the situation I’m in. Moving out just doesn’t seem feasible, but if things continue to worsen I would have to. My husband (usc) is worried and I feel like I’m suffocating in Canada. Any advice on how to navigate this would be greatly appreciated it as well.

Thank you

Expedites are usually considered based on the USC petitioner's circumstances, not the beneficiary's.  Ask your husband to send the expedite request explaining your situation anyway.  Who knows, you might get lucky.

Could you visit/fly to your husband for a while?

Thank you for the clarification! He’ll see what he can do.

Unfortunately I’ve already stayed in the US for 180 days in the calendar year. Luckily he’ll be visiting soon for a few weeks so that’s make things easier. I just don’t know how things will be after he leaves.

Hello,

My spouse and I are in a similar situation to the above, got an expedite approval then today got an email saying our interview has been cancelled (we never even got an interview date). I was wondering how long it took you to get an interview after getting that cancellation email?

Thank you!

Thank you!

It's just how the system is automated with messages. When we got this message about 5 days later we got a message for her interview. It's just because the NVC is taken out of the loop and everything will be coordinated by the consulate. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.
