Dear god I hope someone can respond to me I am so worried. I have my embassy interview on Friday my medical was last Monday, now even though there was a history of depression in my care summary, I said it was never serious depression and never no thoughts on harming myself. I didn't think it was necessary to disclose this as I've been fine for over three year now, big mistake because they asked for a GP report which has to include the fact I had suicidal thoughts at the time of the depression even though it was never acted on and no other history of harming myself or others, my GP will be shining a good light on my mental health state now but I'm worried the medical team will think I deliberately lied to them, can anybody give me any reassurance as to what they think will happen based on your experience, If I will get a chance to explain at the embassy should they ask me? Don't think the GP report will be done in time for my interview though so I may not get that chance, do you think this is reasons for denial on a k1 visa

It is well to my mind surprising how often this comes up, often with actual self harm and often from the UK.

I do not recollect anybody not getting their visa. Might need a additional report.

Well that is somewhat reassuring thank you, do you think I should volunteer this information to the consular officer at my interview or just leave it, cos they will get the results of my medical exam probably after the interview has taken place because they are waiting for the report?

THE CO will rely on the Doctor, they do not have medical expertise.

Im not a lawyer so I can't promise you anything, all I can tell you is about my own experience. I had to do the exact same thing as you because I had been given medications for my spots as a kid and this gave me suicidal thoughts. For me, I was currently in the US on a tourist visa when I was getting ready for my interview, so I had to get up at 05.00am to call my GP in Cardiff and request the letter, They weren't happy about it and they told me it would take weeks which is when I said I would pay them and they got it to me the next day. All the embassy will need is that letter and if you're able to persist with your GP and even give them money, I would try. You need to make sure that the letter says that you're not a harm to yourself or others, that's what it needs to say. Are you able to get the GP people to write the letter sooner, or even go to the clinic to speed it up? You could always bring it with you to your embassy interview then.

Hi thanks very much for your response I appreciate it, my doctor told me he would have it done within a week, even if it was done in time for my interview in 3 days I was under the impression the doctor himself has to send to visa Medicals first then they send it on to the embassy, did the officer at your interview ask you anything about your difficult times at all, just trying to gage an idea of what to expect?

No problem. Actually I had the letter before my embassy interview and brought it with me to my medical in Knightsbridge. When I saw the doctor, she mistakenly thought I hadn't brought it with me and I reassured her and then everything was fine. When I got to the embassy interview, nothing was said. I did have to wait for many hours before I was seen, so be mindful of that. Actually come to think of it, the only time it came up again was when I went through POE in Los Angeles. The officer looked at the k1 packet I gave her and asked me about it. I simply told her the truth that it was because of the medication I was taking and she let me through. I should imagine, from what I have read anyway, that they would say your fine at the embassy interview pending receipt of the letter. So as long as you an keep reminding your GP that this is a matter of extreme urgency, than once the letter is with the medical people in knightsbridge, they will let the embassy know and then you will get your passport back and your visa packet etc.

Thanks for that response I enjoyed reading that! However I sure hope I'm not waiting hours I booked my train backbone not too far out from the interview, 3 hours but thanks because I can try and change it now if I can

Yeah I can't say for sure how long you will be waiting but I know for me that when I arrived I was seen ver quickly by the first person who took some documents (cant remember everything it was nearly 3 years ago!) and then I sat down for a good few hours before I was called to another window. I would try and get a ticket so you can ride at any time of the day if possible, just to be safe. Good luck!

don't ask don't tell. Just answer what you are asked.
