Disagree. It has always been part of the consideration.

I would agree, but in our scenario we have a joint-sponsor which is extra support to help against the option of ever becoming a public charge.

I am looking on the open market tho, and would love to find these $1/day market plans people are talking about lol.

Speaking of the above post, the more im digging into it, would short term health insurance be satisfactory in regards to not becoming a public charge?

We are looking around, and trying to find coverage prices that aren't astronomical in price.  Health insurance isn't needed for proof of bona fide marriage/ or to help against public charge if application is dated prior to public charge final rule date.

We are shopping around on the open market and trying to find the best thing possible.

You could have applied for an Obamacare plan after marriage or during open enrollment, I don't think you'll find anything for less than that.

We are looking into short-term health insurance, for public charge purposes does this suffice until we find a long term health care plan we are satisfied with?

Have you looked into temporary catastrophic insurance?

Even petitions dated after feb. 24th are not required to show proof of health insurance. It’s just one factor. Plenty of other (imho much more important factors) are age (unfortunately), education level, employability, etc. If you don’t have health insurance at the time of your interview then maybe prepare to explain that you are waiting for the next open enrolment period. I believe the health insurance factor will be more heavily scrutinized for applications going forward, but I don’t think for a second that anyone with a petition marked before feb. 24th will be denied based on not having health insurance alone. The officials are not allowed to implement the new rule retroactively to older petitions and will continue to screen the same way they have for decades until they reach petitions marked feb. 24th and onwards.
