It used to take ~5 years to get a F2A visa.

Most of LPR petitioners visited their spouses/children only once or twice a year. It is not nessessary to visit India every 2-3 months to prove your relationship.

There is a huge income difference between substitute teacher and regular teacher. You might not make the minimum income requirement to sponsor someone as a sub depending on your state and how much you work. It's hourly, and you only work when they call you. It can be difficult to get called especially as a first year sub. You need at least 60 college credit hours to apply for an emergency sub license. Most of the subs in my district (I'm a teacher) that get called have 4 year degrees and have been teachers before and they have a regular (not emergency) sub license. A para needs 60 hours as well in my state and work every day in the same school, but also get paid peanuts. If you have a co-sponsor with enough income you could mitigate this.

To be a regular teacher you need a teacher's license, which is a minimum of a bachelor's degree and student teaching. You would make enough to sponsor as a teacher and have less expensive benefits than a sub.

Neither job will allow or afford international visits every 2-3 mos. I sponsored as a teacher making one trip to visit over summer break and one over Christmas, though.

Do Indian government have any say in I-864 ? Please explain.

Of course not.  US consulate does though.

OP, don't you worry about fulfilling the days present requirement, with all that time spent outside of the US?

“Dependent visa” doesn’t count for green card applications, surely you’d rather have him with the big prize than just a dependent for years. You can be thankful in the meantime that F2A category is current at the moment vs normal 2 years or so priority date wait.

Hm, like I said, region matters for jobs, I happen to know there are a number of good opportunities for textile designers in my area. Anyway good that you have an alternative, but I am surprised private school teaching pays so low, definitely not the case everywhere, anyway good luck with your new qualifications and hoping it gets you where you want to be.  And to state the obvious ..if you are staying and working rather than living in India you wouldn’t just be running down savings to pay rent. Also I presume your husband is working at the moment and helping savings? I know it’s tough but I suggest you keep your eyes on the final goal and work towards that, rather than jeopardize it by too frequent /too much time abroad affecting savings and domicile especially when your income is already borderline.

Thanks Susie...as am new to teaching I cannot demand much here. Will look for SFO options soon, if they works out for me.

Yes, he has joined a company in India. I wish his company will be able to send him to US. Yes we are keeping eyes on our savings and hence not wasting it out. The frequent visits are because we are newly married and hate to stay away so soon after marriage...:(

Thanks Daisy for so much details, I was really not knowing this much. Since am new to education industry, am still learning. I am also part of a part time gig for designing marriage / party dresses, hence using that money for my trips. I do get W2 for that (around 1100 pm) so it can also be used for financial support I guess - but it is not a full time employment.

My comment about well qualified means just meeting the poverty guidelines wont cut it but if your joint sponsor is well qualified then you don't need to worry about using them.

Hmm...few questions for sponsor amount -

a. can my husband's Indian assets be counted? How about his current salary ? Will that be counted?

b. If need be, can we add multiple joint sponsor? My husband got very close friends here in US and they are in good jobs with well worth assets.

***Mod Warning. Please keep this topic civil. Keep in mind that each country will have a different experience than others. One country may experience tougher immigration scrutiny than others. Also, do not make any comments or generalization about other nationalities or administrative action will be taken.

a) Assets can be counted in the household. Income can only be counted if it will continue from the same source upon immigrating.

b) There would be no point in having multiple. You cannot combine income/assets across sponsors. Just 1 good/sufficient one is what you need.

Hello Friends,

We married last year in India and I came back to USA alone as my husband's H1b company has shut shop. While his I-130 is on slow moving track, I have now filed for my N400 and also attended the interview. Due to a silly RFE, my Oath has delayed a bit. The continuous uncertainty and long long wait is impacting us. I am visiting India every 2-3 months so I can be with my husband. Below are our timelines.

N400 - Biometric Sep 2019, Interview - 23 Jan 2020, Received RFE, replied on 30 Jan 2020. Updates awaited

I-130 - Priority date 02 Dec 2019. NOA2 Updates awaited.

I really need help / guidance for below points from well experienced friends-

1. I am in a private jobs and my visits to India impacts continuity of my job. It risks me of getting fired from job unfortunately. Also, since my monthly earnings from job are not more than 2K, we are worried for Public Charge issue. Both of us are masters degree holders. He is in IT and have lived in US till 2018 and was making around 80K. What precautions we should take? We do have collective saving in US and India of around 60K.

2. Once my Citizenship arrives by (expecting  by May/June), I am planning to stay with him in India for 4-5 months. Does that mean we need to keep the rental house (and pay its rent without being in it) and car. Or will they help in proving our Domicile? I have a sister in Texas, she is LPR. Can I show her address for domicile?

3. For how long the I-130 wait and NVC process is expected? Both N400 and I 130 are filed from Chicago.

You need to buckle down and look at the big picture; as much as it sucks doing long distance, look at the bigger picture. If you jeopardize your job, what guarantee do you have that you will get a well paying job before the I-130 processing is done? and if you don't have a job, you will need a joint sponsor. I don't know about you, but to me that's a headache i would want to avoid if i were you

Update all. The RFE was removed and Oath is scheduled in April. Hope the Corona story will soon end and Oath ceremony remains as is.

Wish us luck friends!

Also noted a good case of I-130 NOA2 approval coming for Nov 2019 filers. Are any more such cases ? This will be great as our is same month :)
