Haha yes that was my first worry too - that we have to stay in Abu Dhabi for quite some time (medical, interview, wait for results/passport. Because that’s the next funny thing. The embassy needs the passport for the visa and we also need it to travel back, so I guess we’re kind of stuck there until the visa is ready?

Yes. It is my understanding that you are stuck till it is all over.

We’re in Baghdad so that works well for us. And good to know! Wondering why Baghdad consulate advises to not take the medical before interview...

You don't have interview in baghdad why they take medical exam?

They’re not taking the exam. Have you read the immigrant visa section on the website of the US embassy in Iraq? We checked it yesterday for hospitals addresses for the medical and it says in capital letters to NOT schedule a medical before the interview. This obviously stood out because every other embassy requests the medical at the time of the interview. So I was wondering if there is a special procedure for Iraqi Nationals, or if it doesn’t apply when we interview in a different embassy.

No I didn't read it. But NVC told me I can use the medical exam from Iraq in Qatar. I believe when we receive interview letter we can make schedule in specific hospital in baghdad or Erbil for exam. If not we have to take medical exam in countries we have interview.

@HKS @Potooo @Kurdish I have a question for you all :) We're all somewhat in the same boat since the beneficiaries are under Iraqi applicant rules (medical from Iraq, PCC from Baghdad etc etc). I noticed that the embassy in Baghdad states that NO medical exam should be done prior to the interview, that the medical should be scheduled only after the embassy asks the applicant to do so.

Ankara, Abu Dhabi, and Doha (our replacement posts due to BGW closure) do not have this statement on their websites. So I assume the medical should be done before the interview.

Does one of you know if we have to follow Iraq rules or rules of our assigned posts?

I don’t know the right answer but I would assume to wait for what the embassy says. These are some unprecedented times and they could want things done differently now with a global pandemic and all. I guess we’ll only know the right answer if someone wants to call NVC and ask again 😬

Hard pass on that :D I'm happy that we're DQ and approaching the last leg of the process. Hopefully the embassy instructions will clarify, once the interview date comes around (which will probs take a long time)

Your wife can bring an interpreter to the interview. She’ll just have to notify the embassy and provide the interpreters name I believe.

Nothing yet. I (the petitioner) am a permanent resident so our visa category is currently banned. How about you? Did you get an interview date?

No I am still waiting.

Has everyone gotten an interview date for k-1 visa in Ankara, Turkey? Also, have you guys tried contacting them? I keep getting automated responses.

Ankara has resumed spouse visa interviews only. K1 are not considered mission critical, so they probably still have some wait ahead :(

Routine K interviews are not happening at any consulates.

A new statement was just released - it appears they are now given priority. For some reason it won’t let me paste the URL via mobile, but this is from the Dept of State website:

Important Notice for K visa applicants affected by COVID-19

Last Updated: August 31, 2020

Effective August 28, as it becomes safe to resume more consular operations at each U.S. mission, posts are authorized to give K visa cases high priority.  Applicants should check the website of their nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate for updates on what services that post is currently able to offer. The I-129F Petition for Alien Fiancé(e) is typically valid for four months; however, consular officers may revalidate the I-129F petition in four month increments.  For most cases impacted by the suspension of routine visa services or COVID-19 travel restrictions it will not be necessary to file a new I-129F petition.
