They assigned our case to Ankara a few weeks ago.

Im really confused as to what is going on. Im waiting to hear back from a supervisor at NVC as I never got a notice that the request for expedite was denied. The "computer" says they sent it, but I never got it and all my contact info is correct in their system. The person I talked to at NVC was unable to even open the message that said why it was denied.

That sounds frustrating :( Did you check the IV portal for messages?

Glad to hear that you got assigned an Embassy. That is good news....but means now we are in next step of waiting.  Inshallah we will get interview soon.

Just curious, Did you wait until you were assigned an embassy before you uploaded your documents or did it just take you until now to get what you needed in order to do so?

It just took me now to get what I needed.

Initially I logged in and was able to pay my fees. However, it looks like the very next day they assigned me a new case number which locked me out from using the old case number with invoice id number. I waited to a week to see if it would sort itself out since I've heard the CEAC site always has multiple issues. Had no idea they changed my case number until I called this morning and the rep informed me. Took me 45 minutes to get a rep on the phone, but I'm glad I finally called. Anyway we'll see how fast everything gets processed after I put in my applications tonight

OMG. I cant believe the US govt is this bad at this. Sorry you had to go though that.

It took us a long time to get several of the documents. Part of the problem was trying to get police certificate. For a while it was too dangerous for my husband to travel to the department where you get the certificate. There was a road block and the Army said that people were getting shot in the head going past that point so they were stopping everyone. We had to wait for that mess to resolve. Then trying to get another document that was destroyed during the war in 2003. He tried several different departments to get someone to at least make a statement that the documents didn't exist anymore, but they wouldn't do it. So NVC said he could write an affidavit saying that he tried to get the documents but they were destroyed during war. So, inshallah, they will accept it.  At least all our documents are submitted. Just waiting for them to be looked at and sent to embassy in Ankara to schedule interview. But, NVC website says they are 9 weeks behind on that part.  It looks as if documents won't be approved until end of April.

By the way, make sure all your documents are rotated the correct way and the correct size, etc. I hear a lot of people got messages to correct it and resubmit, then their wait to have documents started all over again. Some said it took 4 to 6 weeks after re-submission to get documents approved the second time.

@Potooo your husband will have to plan travels to Baghdad for the police certificate :( It clearly says online that certificate from other branches are not acceptable. He will also need to get it stamped by the ministry of foreign affairs.

How do you both handle documents with translations attached to it? In Iraq the translator union folds one corner of the translated paper and translation, and places a stamp over that corner on the back. How does NVC want these - all corners visible (and therefore the stamp incomplete on the back), or with the complete stamp and one corner folded?

@HKS @Potooo @Kurdish I have a question for you all :) We're all somewhat in the same boat since the beneficiaries are under Iraqi applicant rules (medical from Iraq, PCC from Baghdad etc etc). I noticed that the embassy in Baghdad states that NO medical exam should be done prior to the interview, that the medical should be scheduled only after the embassy asks the applicant to do so.

Ankara, Abu Dhabi, and Doha (our replacement posts due to BGW closure) do not have this statement on their websites. So I assume the medical should be done before the interview.

Does one of you know if we have to follow Iraq rules or rules of our assigned posts?

I was told by NVC when I called them (months ago now) that I should wait for instructions when the interview is scheduled. At the time they thought the medical would be scheduled in the country of interview.

I don't know if this is still true, or if the person at NVC even really knew to begin with.

Yes you have to do medical exam before interview. And you can use medical exam from Iraq. If you can't get medical exam in baghdad you can get in Erbil

Haha yes that was my first worry too - that we have to stay in Abu Dhabi for quite some time (medical, interview, wait for results/passport. Because that’s the next funny thing. The embassy needs the passport for the visa and we also need it to travel back, so I guess we’re kind of stuck there until the visa is ready?

We’re in Baghdad so that works well for us. And good to know! Wondering why Baghdad consulate advises to not take the medical before interview...
