Renewing UK passport in the US

I am just about to renew my UK passport through the British Embassy in Washington DC and I was wondering what everyone did in regard to their two passport photos. It says you have to get someone to sign them who has known you for two years and is a figure of authority. I havent been here for two years to have known someone to ask them to sign my pictures. What did everyone else do? Can you get a friend to sign them or does it have to be a doctor or something?

I got my boss to sign them, however he'd known me for more than 2 years. Personally though I wouldn't stress that minor detail too much, I doubt they do any in depth investigation into who the person who signed is.

I had my boss sign my husbands for us. We had no problems what so ever.

I got my lawyer to sign them... she had only known me for 3 months.... I did phone the phoneline to ask about this and was told as long as the person is an official/professional there would be no problems... had my new passport back within 2 weeks...

Almost every bank-branch has someone who is authorised to give a N-P stamp.

Well on the instructions for the renewing the passport in the USA that you could NOT use a notary! DUH!

Almost every bank-branch has someone who is authorised to give a N-P stamp.

A notary is not what is needed. They want someone to vouch for you who knows you. You can't just pay someone to know you.

If you are simply renewing, and you are still recognizable from your existing passport photo', then you do not require validation.
