hellow vj's awesome community,

my wife got spousal visa as our cr1 is issued. I have few questions now.

1) how long does it take to get social security card after arrival. because i want to file joint tax returns and it seems like she cant travel till april 7.

2) what are next processes, will we get greencard at our address automatically or do we need to do something? about how long does it take?

3) anything else important that needs to be done before she travels or once she arrives here other than social security cardand green card, and driving license.

thank you so much. had this community not been here maybe we couldnt have done it alone what we were able to do so hats off to all whom who help. God bless you all.

thanks in advance for reply

If the $220 immigrant fee has been paid, she should receive her plastic Green Card a few weeks to a few months after arrival.  If she marked the SSN box on the DS-260, she should also receive her Social Security card within a few weeks also.  When she arrives, her passport will be stamped.  That stamped endorsement will function as her green card until the plastic one arrives.

My wife received her Social Security card 11 days after arrival, then she received her green card 2 weeks alter.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

The $220 fee is always paid after the interview.  It can be paid either before or after the immigrant arrives in the US.  However, a plastic Green Card will not be sent until the fee is paid..most people pay before the immigrant arrives.....Here is how you pay:

Do we marked ssn box on ds260,do we need to do anything to get ssn now, s visit to office? Or it will be delivered automatically. Slso does 11 days count 11 working days or totsl 11 days since arriving?
