Entry at JFK after consular approval for GC

My parents will be entering the US at JFK after being approved through consular processing for GCs

1)They didn't get any packets after approval and were all told everything is electronic - "IV Docs in CCD." Would they have to go to secondary inspection at JFK or is the GC stamped in their passport at the first immigration booth?

2) What documents should they carry with them for their first entry? They will carry the approval notice and a copy of the application. Are there any other documents they should be carrying?

3) What questions are typically asked of parents with approved GCs? For example are they asked about health insurance?

Thanks

1.  Maybe......but it is not an issue......

2.  They need only their passport with valid immigrant visa inside.

3.  They might be asked about what they brought into the US....like cash, vegetables, etc.....I have not heard of new immigrants being asked about health insurance at POE.

Their endorsed immigrant visas inside their passports will function as their Green Cards until their plastic ones arrive (The $220 fee must be paid to receive a plastic card).

Good luck and welcome them to the United States for me.....🙂

Thanks for the helpful info

- Does anyone who has been through JFK know if new GC holders have to go for secondary if they have an electronic packet. I am just trying to see how long it would take them?

If they go through secondary, the process could take them a few hours longer which would be tough for them after a long flight

This is incorrect. It’s not mandatory it’s at the discretion of the officer

Is there usually a separate counter for new immigrant visas or does everyone go the general secondary processing room?

Thanks

I went through JFK when I entered. I still had a physical packet so I Just handed that over to the CBP officer. He opened and reviewed then stamped my visa/passport and that was it. In total 5 minutes and no secondary. You go through the same line as everyone else with a visa

Should they stand in the Permanent Resident line or the visitor visa line? I am assuming PR but wanted to confirm

I do hope they don't have to go to secondary as they have a very long flight from back home

They should go to the visa line. They aren't technically PRs until they have their visas stamped.
