We're getting married next month and filing our AOS paperwork right after. My fiance is on a J1 visa and can't move out of state and work remotely until the visa is changed from the J1 (his work immigration lawyers said he needs to be at the physical location under supervision). Once he gets that, he can move to IL where I am. Sadly I live out in the boonies and he'll be working two hours away. We'd like to have two places so he's not commuting a million hours a week every day. Will this cause us grief?

Thanks!

Should be OK as long as its explained at interview. What address will you use for your husband's I-485 though? Your address or his current address? The reason I ask is the only complication might arise if he moves during the AOS process, because you will have to file a change of address. If your husband is planning to move in with you after he gets an EAD (I'm assuming), then it might be easier to use your address for the I-485 paperwork (although this might not be strictly allowed).

I probably could have worded this a lot better. We're talking about separate residences AFTER the EAD because of commute to work. Is this a huge immigration issue?

I would ensure that bot of your names on on all of the utilities and and lease or rental agreements to show co-habitation.
