   The overall stubborn approach I see in politics, and maybe just in society, is really concerning. I think it's an extension of the overall proliferation of instant gratification in society in general. Nobody is working for the future, they are just sore losers in the moment. I criticized the Republicans a lot for having a take the ball and go home approach too often instead of working with Obama. The Democrats are now taking the similarly childish approach of pouting and resisting until they get their way. When you lose in politics, your job is still to govern and to work towards making things better.

 

   How people handle defeat and loss is equally telling to me as how they act in victory.  There is opportunity to grow and improve from defeat. Unfortunately it's hard and it's humbling and it takes time and patience. The first thing it takes is to accept that you need to get better.  We have a lot of sore losers in Washington who can't accept that losing means you are doing things wrong. I guess that's why things don't really change.
