Hi Everyone - I need you help. My wife had her CR1 interview on Feb 7th., 2020. At the end of the interview, the CO approved her visa and advised her that she'll be getting her passports within 2 weeks. Since then, the case status is stuck to 'Ready' and case update dates have been updated. Yesterday,  Immigration Visa Unit from the embassy emailed us with the following questions:

Dear Applicant/Petitioner,

We have recently reviewed your immigrant visa case. To move forward, please provide us with the following:

  • Did applicant ever apply for a US visa in the past?
  • Has applicant ever changed her name?
  • Original previous passports.

Once submitted, please send us a confirmation email at https://pk.usembassy.gov/visas/immigrant-visa-inquiries/.

Sincerely,

Immigrant Visa Unit

US Embassy, Islamabad

UA

My questions are:

  1.  where do I need to submit the responses?
  2. Do I need to send the old passport to the embassy or should I just provide them the biographic page?
  3. Can I upload all the responses via the Inquiry form?
  4. Lastly why all of a sudden embassy is asking us for all this information again?

Note: The reason why her passport was changed because she had FNU on her case since in the passport Surname field was Blank. We asked NVC to remove FNU from her name by providing them the new passport

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Mail to the embassy.

Read carefully what they are asking for. It clearly says ORIGINAL previous passports not a page of the passports.

Once again read carefully. The inquiry form is for you just to send the confirmation email to them to let them know that you submitted.

You should ask the question to your wife actually if the answer is yes to the questions being asked and if yes, why they were not disclosed in DS260 or during the interview. If the answer is yes and were not disclosed, expect a very long administrative processing.

Thanks @arken for the responses. We filled out the correct DS-260 with the first and last name. The only thing that change was the Passport Information other than everything was good. At the embassy counter, they asked my wife why she got the new passport. She explained the reason to them that we had to ammend 'FNU' from the name. They never asked for the OLD Passport otherwise my wife would have give to them.

Hope this helps

Just do exactly as instructed in the letter she received.

Hi @pushbrk she never received any letter. CO approved her visa and kept her passport. She recently received an email from the embassy with the questions which is very unusual.

From the day of interview until now her visa status says Ready.

She had never applied for the visa before nor she has changed the name. The only issue came was her previous passport was made with her given name while her surname was blank. We missed that part and NVC put FNU on her name.

We identified the issue on the passport and corrected it. Now her new passport has her correct given and surname. We even submitted the new passport to NVC and they removed the FNU on her name as well.

As mentioned I'm not sure why embassy is asking if she has ever changed her name.

Also is this normal embassy asking questions by sending an email?

So follow the exact instructions in the email.  Answer the exact questions asked, with truth.  Send them exactly what they ask for.  Don't overthink or complicate it by trying to "interpret" except LITERALLY.
