3 hole punch petitions?

Hello all,

We just got done putting together all our documents for the I129F petition. Everything is so organized and detailed, but we 3 ring punched the pages in a 3 ring binder. If the holes don't punch through any important lettering is this ok?

More importantly, have any of you 3 hole punched your pages and approved no problem?

On the USCIS website it mentions that things should not be stapled, that two-hole punches at the top of the page are appreciated, and that any divider tabs should go on the bottom of the pages.

I paper-clipped certain sections together, for example, all the pages of my passport in one clip, all my fiancé's passport in another clip, etc.  I paper-clipped our photos and the check on top of the first page of the packet.  I bound the whole thing together with a binder clip at the top so that papers wouldn't go flying out willy nilly when they pulled everything out of the envelope.  I used divider tabs at the bottom to indicate the location of my proof of citizenship, intent to marry, etc., like 5 tabs maybe.  I tried to make it as easy as possible to find specifically what you were looking for while also making it as easy and fast as possible to disassemble.  I also two-hole punched all the pages at the top.

@WandY It says to not use binders that cannot be easily dissembled. Ours is about the easiest disassemble there is. Simple open the rings and pull out pages.

I guess I am more curious about those who have done this method and got approved.

Spent $60 on printed so would hate to have to do it again haha

I don't think the holes in the paper or the binder will be will be a deal breaker. But I can imagine some poor soul at UCICS having to remove all those paper clips and opening countless binders. 😃

I did the paper clip thing and two-hole punched the top of our application.

I actually put mine in a folder with the clear plastic holder attached to it and got approved. but i separate everything and divide it clearly. So like I-129F in one clear plastic holder, evidence in another, photos in another etc. and uses sticky note to state what each clear plastic holder holds.

Dated for almost 3 years before he proposed. 💍

I don't recommend using the curious method to send this I would follow the protocol that USCIS prefers for a smooth start to this process. Everything you send to attach your file into a neat package will be thrown away, binders included. They are after the easiest method to complete the scan and process to your incoming file. The $60 just went up in smoke.

Thanks for the advice everyone. It seems it would be a bad idea to send in the three hole punch version so I will redo it.

It is recommended to have a second copy of the petition paperwork to bring to the interview, so could this 3 hole punched d version be used for that? Did you guys bring a copy with you the beneficiary interview ?

That's a very good idea to have on  hand the application and supporting paperwork. Most embassies will not ask for it but out of the blue one will and you will be prepared. It's also a good way for the beneficiary to know the petitioner as some questions could be asked that now you would know the answer to since you have the application.

I still would like to know if anyone has 3 hole punched their pages or not - if they were approved/denied.

Struggling to see why this would make a difference vs 2 holes at the top.

No where does it say 3 hole punch is not allowed

Ahhh thank you @Dxc

Nice to finally hear from someone who did the same.

I've been told it’s no problem but wanted to hear from someone who was approved.

To be clear, you three hole punched the paper sheets itself right (rather than our whole pages in protective sleeves)?

How many months did it take to be approved ?
