It is (and I read that story before I went to bed last night), but they really have done this to themselves. There has been a history of covered up abuse in the BSA since the 30s if I recall from the article. It's such a shame because their ideals and beliefs are generally good ones, and they probably have done far more good in the world than bad.

I was in scouts for a few years as a kid. We were going to put our daughter in girl scouts, which they call girl guides here, but after talking to them and meeting with them to find out info after some troubling things were said... they're so contrived in political advocacy/idiocy we backed out of it.

 

The boy scouts have similarly become far too involved in controversial politics, catering to the left's attempts to infiltrate institutions and ruin them. Its demise is just another sign of the times.

Well, to be fair, the BSA had issues before, but ever since they let the girls in, it has gone downhill fast.

Yeah, the issues though weren't indicative of BSA culture at large. It was akin to stories we see about "the local Starbucks barista being mean to the cop", where it's expected there will be outliers (bad people) and morons so long as society is human. BSA for me as a kid (noting my background being from SF) was very welcoming, the culture was in a way where we had gay scoutmasters, boys who liked being extremely effeminate, but it was all good.. quirkiness and personality dispersion was perfectly normal. Yet, the backbone of the scouts was emphasized, people respected the rules, questions came up and were approached rationally. What's happened to the scouts is really just a microcosm of where this toxic left have gone in rapid time, and every institution they've gotten their claws on has seen this happen.

Well, the more than 5,000 known sexual predators within their ranks goes back MANY years (they have files on many of them).  Now I am glad I never pushed my son into joining the scouts.

The identity of those people is troubling, but, are they sexual predators of kids in boy scouts? Like.. something related to BSA? I mean, it's an organization not the police. The parents should be involved in such organizations and know who their kids are around, especially if it encompasses any meaningful amount of time, has circumstances where low numbers of adults are unsupervised around children for long periods, etc. The BSA troop I was at as well had a bylaw where, while criminal backgrounds weren't necessary, any issues or requests concerning that had to be met. 

 

But that's why when I went to send my daughter to girl guides, I met with them, I talked to them, I talked to people who had their kids in there, found opinions of people who didn't like them as well, and decided their values (as in, identity politics / intersectionality activism) didn't fit my standards.
