Hi,

I hope y'all are doing fine. I have a couple of questions. Please, I need some help:

  1. I am applying for my citizenship now. I just came to know of thing called selected service system. I came to the US when I was 25 and you know the first year is always the toughest. You wait for GC, look for a job, get the driver’s license, getting to know the system etc. Now that, I have to come to know of this thing about getting registered with SSS. Only if I had known, I would have also taken care of this one little thing as well. Please let me know, what can I do now? I would really appreciate your help on that.
  2. My i-751 is stuck somewhere and I am waiting for my appointment for an interview to be scheduled. It’s almost been a year now I am thinking about applying for my citizenship so that I can have both the interviews i.e. N-400 and i-751 together. Please, if you can, let me know how do I do that?

Thank you!

I actually just got an email back from the selective service to clear this subject..

Good Morning,

When applying for Naturalization ONLY:
Go to www.sss.gov and scroll down the page until you see the Statue of Liberty. Once located click on it: the next screen that appears look for the Heading "Immigrant Men 31 or Older" and go to the paragraph underneath and Click on the last word: HERE (blue).  Lastly, Print.  The first page, notice the underlined words stating: applicants for naturalization who are over age 31 are eligible for naturalization even if they knowingly and willfully failed to register.

When applying for things OTHER than Naturalization:
You must complete the Status Information Letter Request (found by Clicking: FORMS on the homepage) and mail it in with proof of your exemption. If not exempt, contact us: 888-655-1825. We might be able to complete an interview over the phone and submit a Status Information Letter and mail it out to you, without any documents needed from you.

I hope this clears up some of the confusion
