That's the worst, John... kids grow on people a lot. But such is life I guess... and I hope you protect yourself from any potential malfeasance that may be at play here. :(

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Thanks everyone for your support. While Margarita did have trouble adjusting to this country, that wasn't our problem. Our problem was that after 6 months here, she decided that "married life isn't for her". Margarita said she is no longer in love with me. That we both knew we were taking a risk and that there was no way to know if we would make it other than to get married and try. I understand what she means, but it makes me think that she wasn't as convinced as I from the begining. She lived with her mom for 28 years, and her mom did everything. She didn't like being a homemaker, but didn't want to work fulltime either. As far as kids, I think Daniela is the only reason we lasted as long as we did. Daniela and I formed a really strong father-daughter relationship. She's a wonderful little girl, and I will miss her so much. I think it's harder for men with a stepson. Boys seem to be more protective of their mom. thanks again for everything

john

Oh no, that's just heart wrenching. I can't even imagine how hard it's going to be for Daniela. I'm sure it's going to be really hard for her as well. :(

Hi everyone,

Margarita and Daniela have been gone for a week now. Margarita's mom called me the night that got back to let me know they arrived safely and to thank me for everything. I have not heard from margarita. Now that they are gone, do I need to contact USCIS? I don't know if I can get their non-permanent resident status revoked. I have their greencards. I don't want to seem harsh, but I need to protect myself from anything that might come about. I don't anticipate Margarita coming back to the US, but you never know.

thanks

john

You'd be well within your rights to contact them... although no fraud has transpired... so its your call. Hypothetically they *could* try to return to the US on a temporary AP from the Embassy since they are now GC holders... but I doubt it. I am curious as to how they were allowed to board their international flight without the GC or did you collect it after they checked in? I'm sorry to pry...

You may be better served at this time seeking more professional advice from an honest immigration attorney- with the understanding that its likely only one consult you do.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Oh hi there Buck. Great to see you check back in. With an iffy winter approaching I feel like you'll be grateful to be in S. Florida.

I honestly think you're ok John. It would be a huge hassle for her to get a copy of her greencard and even if she does it's only valid until 2011 but like Will said, it's your call.

Thanks my friend. It was great meeting you guys too!

I appreciate the advice (good or not). The cultural stuff is important, but I think in Juan's case it has more to do with him being 13 yrs old - and all that entails. I think we can work it out as long as everyone keeps communicating. Once that goes, there's not much left. We keep plugging away. The problem on my end has probably as much to do with my age as anything. The older you get, the more 'conservative' or resistant to change you become. My Colombian family challenges me on the change issue on a daily basis. I think I'm getting better at dealing with it, but I'm not the final judge and jury. :-)

Yeah, Lorena's mom is a really good person - and a good cook!!! lol

I hope next time, I'M the one that gets to visit Florida!!!! hahahaha

Hi Guys...just checking in to say hello. Good to see some of the same faces still here helping out.

Oscar is going on vacation tomorrow to Colombia and I guess that inspired me to check in. He got his Permanent Residence in July and is breaking it in for the first time. He's so excited to be going home to see his parents and I'm excited for him.

We're doing very well. Oscar's English is excellent and getting better everyday and he's been promoted twice this year. I'm so proud of him. He's taking the TOFEL in November and he's hoping to start college in the Spring.

Well, best of luck to all.

Very good news Andrea! My wife is also doing extremely well- she's directing a small college's satellite campus here in town. Hopefully this time in a year or two she'll be directing all of the campus locations as well. Something like a 'dean' position.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.
