My husband has been following the SENA English course since last February and says it's really good. He's now in advanced classes and the program is very professional and easy to follow. His sister is also taking free English classes in their local SENA institution and has moved to the Intermediate level.

I read last year that Uribe's government was very concerned at the fact that not many Colombians were bilingual in any language, so that's how it came to be. They're hoping to have bilingual citizens after taking this program. Time will tell.

Yeah I'm not counting on that all that much. SENA is awesome and very accessible but Uribe's government should have focused more on social issues to fix things that needed fixing instead of perpetuating so much cronyism and hate at home.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Hey guys,

So my wife is finally here with me. The POE at JFK was really good only took her about 10 mins to get through immigration and they didn't check her bags before exiting. Now we are enjoying our time together and will soon file for AOS. Thanks for the help guys.

Hi. Harold, congrats on your wife being here with you. I know how good that feels. I think its one of the biggest milestones in this 'journey'.

Its been a year and a few days since oscar arrived...I'm back to checking my mailbox daily and NO world from USCIS on his greencard, interview...nothing!!! I keep thinking of Tony S and how long his process took. I have to be patient. My congressman is in an unexpected runoff election with his democratic rival and I'm sure his staff is fully focused on his bid for reelection..that's why they haven't responded to my request (boo hoo) and now that I'm out of 'normal' processing time for Atlanta, I'm wondering if I should contact the OBUDSMAN???? What should I do???? Help??? I want to get this over with.

Its on you....let me know your thoughts.

Hey Andrea...

That could be a good idea. Perhaps in your contact with the Ombudsman you can mention that your Congressional district is under runoff conditions and that you need special assistance since your case is past the normal processing timeframe...

suerte!!

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Have you tried making an Infopass appointment to find out what they can tell you in person? It's been an awful long time and not a normal process at all. Something needs to be done.

I would make any and all contacts necessary. No need to worry about doubling up on anyone. From my experience, don't expect too much from the ombudsman, but it can't hurt to shake the tree a little bit.

As for your congressman, you might also consider contacting both of your US Senators' offices. Again from my experience, each Senator has a person in their home state whose time is at least partly dedicated to dealing with immigration issues. In our case, we got great response and assistance from our Democratic Senator, and zero response from our Republican Senator. I doubt this had anything to do with party politics, as much as with the personalities of the respective Senators.

Hey guys we just spent our first thanksgiving together and it was great! I got a quick question, when i file for the AOS i file to the chicago lockbox and then it gets sent to the local office right? Well is this local office necessarily the office closest to home or can the case be sent to another office which is not so far behind in the processing times? I am really concerned because the new york city office is behind a year and 2 months so i would really hate it if my case gets sent there. Thanks

WOW!! Been a while since I have posted. Our sons interview for his green card was last Wednesday. The CO decided we needed a Civil Surgen t approve of his vaccinations. Man, I tell ya, it never ends. We seem to have to do everything twice.

We moved to the Seattle area and have had some problems adjusting. Paola is in school for english and taking some medical stuff as well. She had a job for about 1.5 hours and then lost it due to not speaking english well enough. Don't know why they hired her in the first place. Her english has really improved though. By this time next year she should be able to enter nursing school. She wants to drive also. This is one heck of a place to learn.

She wants a job bad. When we moved up here she left all her friends behind. Our son is doing ok but not making many friends. His english is improving but has trouble communicating. Many of the spanish speakers are druggies or gang members. They kind of have there own little group. New for me comming from a small town. He has found a few to hang out with though that are good kids.

The apartment we are renting got broken into and they took everything, including our food. Paola says Seattle is worse then Colombia. LOL>LOL. Needless to say Paola not real thrilled with Seattle.

Overall things are good. I do get pissed at our son from time to time. Mostley culture stuff and problem with good communication. I think I may push to hard.

Nay... it goes to the National Benefits Center after the Lockbox. Then onto a service center. Local offices rarely get AOS packages.

So sorry to hear about the break-in buck. Perhaps a move to a better secure area would be in store?

Good luck with the job hunting for Paola!! Signs of the times for all of us.

I can empathize on the culture stuff, Buck. Hard to imagine Seattle being worse than Colombia, but then again big cities are rife with that sort of thing. Hang in there buddy.

Guys, thank you for all the advise. I haven't done anything yet, other than fill out the obudsman request. I've honestly been so busy at work that I hardly have time to think of anything else. This is a result of our RECESION. All the cutbacks at work mean less people doing the work of many. I'll send the request out soon, don't want to do the info pass..feel its a waste of time (from what i've heard) and I'll contact my congressman again (he's leading in the polls tonight).

Buck, sorry to hear of your troubles in Seattle. There good and bad everywhere. I hope things get better soon.
