Hi campers! We had our AOS interview this morning. Everything went very well. Most of the questions were a bit odd in that the female officer (with another officer as witness) asked us to verify information she had in front of her - full name, birth date, city of birth, parents' names, etc. She also asked how and where we met. All of that went quite well, and she said nothing about needing extra vaccinations before approval.

However...... (why is there always a 'however' with our case???? ).... Though she said our case was approved as far as she was concerned, she said that one of the 'name checks' on Lorena had not been completed yet. Evidently, there are three checks that they do: they do a USA name check (FBI I would guess), a name check in the home country, and a third one internationally through Interpol. It's this third one they are waiting on. She said it could take three to six more weeks, which would put us close to our second anniversary. I asked about the conditional residency issue and she said that it is totally dependent on the approval date. So, theoretically, if you are approved one day before your second anniversary, you will be in conditional status for two years. On or after your second anniversary, you go straight to permanent resident. While she hedged a bit and said it was possible, since we would be so close to our second anniversary, they might go ahead and grant permanent residency, somehow I'm not buying it. We'll just hope that the Interpol check takes longer than normal. In any case, we will be notified when card production is ordered.

So, as always, we have (marginally) good news.

First of all congratulations on your approval, God knows how much we all want to see the end of this Journey, papers and papers and papers.

Parkpapa or anyone with any helpful information

Our interview is on September 19 (2 ½ weeks from now) and I had been worry about my husband's vaccinations, to tell you the truth, they had been quite confusing for me, even more now with the new list to take in consideration, this is my dilemma.

My husband's Medical appointment in Bogota was on January 5th, 2008, since then he have not had any other shots, what will be the best option for us to do?, I heard that the full medical is not necessary, I had been checking on line to locate a Public Health Center to save us a few bucks but do I still need to get them transcribed by the authorized doctor from the USC? Also, do we need to fill out the whole I-693? And where does it say the appropriate gender and age for the new ones? Anyone who had been through and is willing to give us any tips, we really appreciate it.

Thanks…….Ana and Juan

Hey Ana,

Check with the Public Health Dept over there if they have someone authorized by USCIS. Chances are, they'll have a Civil Surgeon that is authorized. As for the list, the new list of vaccines, remember that most are age appropriate anyway. That means your hubby won't be requiring most of them, and the personnel at the Public Health Dept will tell you which ones he'll need- if any.

Even if he doesn't get all the ones due to any vaccine conflicts, if any, they'll still fill out the paperwork and give it to you. I do not believe that most Public Health Depts charge for the Civil Surgeon fees other ripoff MDs usually charge.

They will make you pay for any shots... and in Chicago its like $20 per shot.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Hi Ana and Juan...

I don't have the link handy, but someone recently listed the required vaccinations (probably on the Colombia Club forum here) and had a link to a government website with full information. When I checked the site, it turned out most of the newly required vaccinations didn't apply in our cases. Some are age and/or gender dependent. The government website will likely be either Department of State of Centers for Disease Control. Sorry I can't be more specific (my memory ain't that good!). My wife and her boys had the vaccinations required (at the time) while waiting for her interview in Colombia. I know the requirements have changed since then. Those vaccinations were sufficient for them to enter the country, but we found the boys needed others before they could go to school here.

For your other questions, I'm not familiar with your case. Are you already married and going the CR-1 route, or novios todavia? When Lorena and the boys got here, the requirements were that they be seen by a "civil surgeon" here in the US shortly in order to continue the paperwork process. It really doesn't make much difference what the Colombian doctors say. They can give a clean bill of health, but it's the civil surgeon here that gets the final say on medical issues. I'm sure they review the information from Colombia, but may do their own exam as well. As I recall, the civil surgeon will complete the I-693. You only need to make sure you make two or three copies of the papers. You will need them both for your own records, but also for other paperwork that may come up later.

Sorry I can't be more specific on your questions. The government requirements for some of the things you're dealing with have changed since we went through the process, and I don't want to give you old information and lead you in the wrong direction.

Best of luck to both of you in your journey.

Hi guys, I am looking for a little help and after reading the forums am still a little confused. My fiance came here on a K-1 with her two children on K-2's ages 10 and 16 both have birthdays in November (obviously a year older then). Am I right to assume that I have to pay $1010 for my wife (we got married two weeks ago) and $1010 for the 16 year old and $600 for the 10 year old to file the I-484's???? Also if that is the case can I just do my wife's 484 and then file for the children when she is approved? Thanks for any help you can give me.
