HMMMMM.... What is one to think of our immigration service. The latest chapter in our adventure is a relatively minor one, but sure makes me wonder what the heck these people are thinking about.

We had our interview and the lady said all the paperwork was in order and we were only waiting on a background check from Interpol. However, on Friday we received an ROI for both the boys. Immigration wants a copy of my 864 for each of them. This strikes me as more than odd since the rules clearly state that dependents of the petitioner are included with the proof of support for the petitioner.

I guess if there's a plus side to this, it's that this delay may possibly put card production after our magic two-year anniversary. I would be more than happy for that. But, I still can't believe how incredibly consistently incompetent our government can be.

The only thing I know for sure is that there was no second shooter in the Kennedy assasination and no government plan to destroy the World Trade Center as motivation to wage war on Islam. Our government is totally incapable of any conspiracy more complicated than "hey! let's go screw some things up today."

Okay.... no more venting today. Now it's time to try and catch up with what's been happening here. We were without connection for several days.

Charles

Yeah... take it in stride... its only a copy they want. I am sure you can also write a nice cover letter explaining the rules behind the 864... since it IS free... unless they want fresh ones which would make the USCIS case worker assigned to your files even more retarded than you could imagine.

But then... their folly should hopefully save you some cash after it all.

I don't know about that whole WTC thing with a conspiracy but I for a fact wouldn't doubt that second gunman!

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

I have a question regarding buying airline tickets when the passport and green card are in different names.

I'm trying to buy airline tickets to Colombia. Brianys has her green card, but her passport is still in her maiden name. Avianca requires that the passport and the ticket are in the same name. This is not a problem, however, on the return trip back to the U.S., she will have show her passport which has no valid visa because it's expired, but she now has her green card. I'm not sure if Avianca or Emmigration requires that the passport has a valid visa before being permitted to leave. Will there be a problem passing through Emmigration? Even though her passport and green card show different names, I would think that as long as she showed her passport, marriage certificate and green card to Avianca and to Emmigration then she should be able to pass through and be permitted to leave Colombia. Have any of you experienced this?

We traveled in July. Same deal- Passport with Visa in maiden name. Green card with married name. Make sure you take a marriage certificate to be safe but we did not have any issues there or coming back.

If you have enough time what she can do is to change her information with the nearest Colombian consulate. New passport in married name.

Just received a notice today for my wife to take another biometrics. I'm getting so frustrated with this AOS process! We have been waiting over a year. I have even contacted my congressman. This process is such b******t!!!!

Tony...I CAN'T believe you've been waiting for over a year for your approval! That's outrageous. I guess I won't complain about my wait. But I sure hope its not that long. What has your congressman been able to find out for you?

Dre

No kidding. Tony... sweet talk your way into the Service Center's good grace.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Lightly pressure them to recheck that for you. They just need a reminder... and include in your inquiry what they told you at the congressional office. Include a copy if you must.

Tony,

I think its time you contact the USCIS Obudsman. The guide for subitting your case can be found at the link below. You're supposed to be 90 days outside the 'normal' processing time for your case. I think you're there. I hope this is helpful and brings a quick resolution to the case.

I do reiterate that talking to them in good humor gets results. I wasn't yet past the 90 day limit when somehow, Mária's GC was approved when all they could say was that it was in for normal processing. Something like this reeks of bottom-of-the-pilitis if you know what I mean. Keep us abreast of the issue.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Thanks Dre for the information. I mailed off the form for contacting the Obudsman today.

I wish you luck with the Ombudsman. We didn't get very far in our case, but that seems to be the norm for us.

As a brief update, I responded to the RFE with copies of the I-864 for each of the boys. After reading through things more carefully, the instructions DO say to submit a copy of the original 864 for each dependent coming with the petitioner. In my haste to get all of this stuff over with I guess I missed that. If we ever have ANYTHING go our way, I hope that it is that all this run around with the 864 and the background check with Interpol will delay things past our anniversary date later this month. :innocent:

Hi campers! We had our AOS interview this morning. Everything went very well. Most of the questions were a bit odd in that the female officer (with another officer as witness) asked us to verify information she had in front of her - full name, birth date, city of birth, parents' names, etc. She also asked how and where we met. All of that went quite well, and she said nothing about needing extra vaccinations before approval.

However...... (why is there always a 'however' with our case???? ).... Though she said our case was approved as far as she was concerned, she said that one of the 'name checks' on Lorena had not been completed yet. Evidently, there are three checks that they do: they do a USA name check (FBI I would guess), a name check in the home country, and a third one internationally through Interpol. It's this third one they are waiting on. She said it could take three to six more weeks, which would put us close to our second anniversary. I asked about the conditional residency issue and she said that it is totally dependent on the approval date. So, theoretically, if you are approved one day before your second anniversary, you will be in conditional status for two years. On or after your second anniversary, you go straight to permanent resident. While she hedged a bit and said it was possible, since we would be so close to our second anniversary, they might go ahead and grant permanent residency, somehow I'm not buying it. We'll just hope that the Interpol check takes longer than normal. In any case, we will be notified when card production is ordered.

So, as always, we have (marginally) good news.

Charles

First of all congratulations on your approval, God knows how much we all want to see the end of this Journey, papers and papers and papers.

Parkpapa or anyone with any helpful information

Our interview is on September 19 (2 ½ weeks from now) and I had been worry about my husband’s vaccinations, to tell you the truth, they had been quite confusing for me, even more now with the new list to take in consideration, this is my dilemma.

My husband’s Medical appointment in Bogota was on January 5th, 2008, since then he have not had any other shots, what will be the best option for us to do?, I heard that the full medical is not necessary, I had been checking on line to locate a Public Health Center to save us a few bucks but do I still need to get them transcribed by the authorized doctor from the USC? Also, do we need to fill out the whole I-693? And where does it say the appropriate gender and age for the new ones? Anyone who had been through and is willing to give us any tips, we really appreciate it.

Thanks…….Ana and Juan
