Hi Ana,

I'm not sure about that... we went to the local public health department and paid for the booster Mària needed, $20. The paperwork transfer was completely free and the staff was extremely friendly. You might want to check it out in California.

Well... today the mail brought us her SS Card!! So that must mean that Lorena's is on its way...

Keep up the faith folks.

Thanks maviwaro.

I have a public health center close to where I live, I know they don't charge much for vaccinations, but, will they be able to transfer the information to the I-693A form without us taking the change of getting a RFE for it?. That will be cool.

Thanks.........Ana (F)

Hello Club Columbia, I finally get to join you guys! Sandy's visa was approved yesterday, and we are preparing to head to New York in a few days! I am looking for a quick heads up of any documents I may need in the states for Sandy's AOS. Is there documents we should have translated here in Colombia? THanks for any advise you can provide!

As always Colombia Club is the best!

Glad to hear you finally got the card! Maybe some things will start moving. We did visit the local USCIS office and we were told the same thing - that I will have to obtain work permits for the boys (ages 5 and 11) in order to get their Social Security numbers. What a great government we have. LOL

LOL... Hey... at least then you can get them a job! More money for the household- tell them that at SSA. #######??

BTW... probably a waste of time to request EADs for the kids since they may just get their residency before the EAD applications are entertained, right??

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Hello Steve,

Definitely get her Registro Civil de Nacimiento (Birth Certificate) translated and get a few copies just in case. Also, remember that they don't have to be apostilled, so don't spend the extra money on that, it's not necessary.

Hello everyone. I'm so glad Fernanda and I are not in this forum. Congratulations to all the other newcomers here.

We are about to mail out the AOS packet as soon as I get home, but I had a quick question before we do. The I-131 is unnecessary with a K-3 visa, correct? I do not want to file this form unless it is necessary, but if I have to pay for it anyways with the I-485 I do not know if I should go ahead and send it.

I have another concern. I was deployed for the majority of 2007 so most of my income was no taxable. When I did my taxes my gross income shows under the poverty line even though my taxable income for social security was way over the poverty line. Does anyone have any suggestions for this? Should I just submit my 2006 taxes?

That's crazy!!! I've never heard of anything like that. I'm sure the SSA office guy was mistaken because that is beyond ridiculous.

Diana

It is seemingly crazy but not unexpected. After a couple of months being married we decided to go for the SSN with EAD in hand, similar to Charles. Still no update in the USCIS to SSA #######. The explanation they gave us was exactly that and that the delay for Maria to receive her SS# would be approximately 4-6 weeks instead of the usual 2-4.

Any similarity there, Charles??

FYI its now week 5 and nothing from SSA.

The guy we talked to said it would take "seven to ten days to hear back from USCIS" and then said things would progress "normally" (whatever that means). This is all well beyond ridiculous. I still have not been able to submit my state taxes from LAST year because I lack a SSN for Lorena, and when we receive the number, I will have to resubmit our amended federal taxes from last year to also show the number. Funny how when THEY need something, the need is immediate and we lose if we don't meet the deadline, but when it's OUR turn, we lose either way. Well, maybe not so funny.

Charles

Wow is all I can say! I was thinking I could just file without a SS # or place my wife's Alien number on the return...still waiting on the AOS! How do I go about filing this years return? I want the money the IRS owes me and fast!!! Any advice on filing?

I filed last year and got a partial refund ($2000 out of $2600 due as filing jointly). To get the rest, I will file an amended return for last year - after we get Lorena's SSN. The other route is to get a Tax ID number from the IRS. I tried that last year but had a variety of problems with it (all related to the IRS people not being familiar with the process and giving me inaccurate or incomplete information two different times). Frankly, I think you're as well off waiting for the SSN at this point.

I went to the local IRS today. Was told to file my prepared return as married, with my son as a dependant. Attach form W-7, which requests the Tax ID number ( A W-7 for my wife and son) I need to also send a copy of both of their passports (notarized) and I will include a copy of the marriage certificate as well. The return is to be sent to Philadelphia (I believe). Once there they issue the tax ID number and they forward the to return to the center that would normally process it. Was told it takes about 8 to 12 weeks.........so that means 16-20 weeks with the government.

If anyone was told different, please let me know!!!!

Still need to find out about the State tax return!

Hi CC.. Happy New Year! Fianally, I've gathered the $1010 for the AOS for Oscar and I'm submitting it this week. I'm only missing the Medical form, but I've spent the last 2 hours reading through the entire thread and learned the correct process. Thank you Dr. Gonzalez for providing the vaccination worksheet. I noticed that everyone who went to see her has the extra copy. I'll call around tomorrow to see who will fill it out for free of for cheap!

Good to read the success stories and Charles, I hate all that you've been put through. My husband is on a K3 and I agree, it is completely unfair and illogical that a Spouse of a USC is treated with less privelages than a Fiance (no offence K1s)! If I had to do it again, we would go the K1 route!

Wish us luck!

Thanks Diana, but I'm in Atlanta and it would be a long trip to Austin! I did call around today and one Dr. will do it for $20. The only thing that concerns me now is that the form has some areas where the doctor has to certify that he's perfomend a physical. I noticed that many of you didn't take the physical. Was the doctor willing to sign off on the other exams?
