Don't worry, Buck, about the length of time in the AOS process. Things will take a lot less when you compare it to the visa process.

The important part will be AP and EAD... those will come relatively fast. Then our spouses can drive and work all they want until PR status.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

This part seems a lot easier. There is no anxiety like going through the K-1 process. She is here with me, no waiting!!!

We got he letter for Paola's Biometrics appointment, Dec. 20th. I hope all else moves as quick as this. She still does not have her SSN card. I called and they said I need to apply when the Application for work is completed. I am a little confused. I thought she would be able to get it right away with a K-1 visa.

You can print Section C and show a SSA supervisor the information shown here:

https://s044a90.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx...33;opendocument

Yes, Paola can obtain a SSN and yes, she can work. Otherwise, SSA is lying.

Yes Buck she can get a SSN while she is on a K-1 visa but the window is shorter than the 90 days. First of all she has to wait 2 weeks after arrival to make sure she is in the system ( I think it is called SAVE ) and most offices won't accept a application if there are only a couple of weeks left before the 90 days is up. If that is the case then you will have to wait for the the EAD. Our local office screwed up our first application and I patiently waited to late. We had to wait for the EAD and it was quick and simple after that.

HELLO AOS COLOMBIA CLUB...I'm sooooo happy to join you on this leg of the Journey. This has been a long time coming for us and I can't express in words how happy we both are. I'm reading through your posts to catch up on everything. I'm putting our AOS package together this week and hope to have it in the mail by Monday, 11/26.

One question, have any of you had the opportunity to get a Social Security Card for you K3 spouse prior to recieving the EAD? I'm wondering how I can add Oscar to my bank account without the SS card?

Dre

Lorena's been here since June and I am still unable to put her on my bank account or my life insurance - because she has no SSN, and this is because she has no work permit. We filed for the work permit in July and that's taking a minimum of 12 weeks from what I hear.

Hello,

I am wondering if someone can give me some advice or directions on the following problem. Last week I went to apply for a Soc Security Card for my wife but was unable to get one due the system showing her Status as V1 (Visitor) instead of K1.

The person at the counter took a copy of the Marriage Certificate and Passport and faxed it to USCIG and told to wait 4-5 weeks.

But I do not feel confident that the problem will get resolved on its own. Any advice?

Thanks

otis

Ouch.

4-5 weeks is not that long of a time but I'm sure its a hassle especially when its not your mistake that results in a wrong SAVE classification. Ask to speak to a supervisor if you haven't done so already (in a polite manner). It could be that the system was not updated or that you went too early.

At this point all I can think of is to wait. If by week 4 there's no update, involve your local US Rep/ state Senator.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

(I posted this in Colombia Club but thought there might be some who read this thread and not that one, so....)

AT LONG LAST!!! We are FINALLY one step closer to having things go our way. We received an e-mail today that Lorena's EAD (work permit) has been approved - this took 4 months almost to the day from her biometrics appointment.

I had called USCIS last week for an update and, as usual, got an entirely different answer than all the previous ones. But, this time, it was REALLY different! The last lady I talked to said we couldn't enter a service request even if the processing time was past. She said Lorena's employment authorization would be on hold until her AOS package was approved. She also told me that I couldn't have filed it separately. Both of these statements were obviously wrong. Even information on the USCIS website contradicted her.

I have long since concluded that the people you talk to on the USCIS phone system are only give one instruction: stall and tell the caller whatever you can think of to frustrate them and make them hang up.

Anyway, at least this portion is over with. We're still awaiting word from the USCIS Ombudsman and my US Senator regarding the AOS mess. But, at this point, I'll take even a small miracle. LOL

Check cashed yesterday. Sigh... bye bye $1,010

How long did it take before the MSCXXXXX case numbers become available for online tracking?

FYI - When I checked my original I-129F on USCIS, it still shows pending and it never changed since NOA1!!!

Same here Chester (I-129F). Only that the last date was the NOA2 date... no problems though!! You got your lady with you and that's all that matters.

The NOA1 for AOS in our case came just before the check was cleared, so your NOA1 should be in the mail hopefully.

Update: NOA1s for AOS, EAD and AP arrived today, dated Dec 3.

Biometrics Dec 27.

The case number at the back of the check was NOT the same case number in the notice. The one in the NOA1 was "1 count" higher than the one printed on the check. There were three different case numbers for each form, all of them are shown in USCIS case status website.
