Of course and it can be a lot longer than 10 years.

Pretty sure that you are, at least until they become citizens or work a certain amount of time.

But yeah, that's what I meant.

I kinda don't believe we are responsible anymore if there is a divorce, in the U.S.  Anybody else care to offer opinions?

Read the agreement.

Lol, I am afraid to read the agreement now.  I might change my mind.

Supreme Member, I'll take your word for it.

Grovelling is always acceptable.

Sorry, where exactly does it talk about being financially responsible if your newly married immigrant wife divorces you in the U.S. and you are still financially responsible for them?

The I 864, I 134 is not really important, I have seen it used as part of a divorce negotiation.

OMG!

I am sure everyone has an opinion. Here's mine, that's wrong.

I haven't gotten to this form in the process yet.

And to answer the question if this will stop my application process?  Nope.

Thanks for sharing info.  Still in disbelief.

So what exactly do you mean, "you'll be financially responsible for this person for the next 10 years, even if she leaves you after she gets her visa?"  You dont mean, we as sponsors are responsible even in divorce?  Thanks

Once you complete and sign the I-864 you are obligating yourself to that person, if they stay in the USA, until they either have 10 years of full time work (roughly) or they become USC.

Divorced or not.

But this only applies if they stay in the USA

@Milmauka You (the sponsor) are going to be responsible for the beneficiary of your petition after you will have married and while that person stays in the USA, regardless if you might divorce. Also a prenup wouldn't affect this. The responsibility of the sponsor ends after the alien has become a US citizen or after they have worked 40 quarters.

Is this wrong? Well, your consent with the conditions of the visa should be an informed one.

Yeah there was a guy on here a few years ago going through a divorce and his soon to be x-wife's attorney was trying to make him liable to take care of his wife for 10 years because he signed for the I864. I do not remember the outcome of his case
