Harvard professor among three charged with lying about Chinese government ties

Now if I was a conspiracy nut . The head of Harvard's chemical biology dept, has been charged with working illegally with the Chinese to establish a lab in Wuhan China along with two of his students that were actually members of the Chinese military. He was being paid 50K a month by the Chinese?

The super secret bio lab already exists in Wuhan. The Chinese did the same thing in Canada, and managed to infiltrate and steal info. However there's no direct evidence that Covid19 came from the lab and likely governments would have intelligence about it. Remember coronavirus in the form of SARS has been around for a while. Viruses mutate, it's probably likely to happen with time and the right conditions.

 

Could it be possible, sure. But you can't discount the simple explanation too.

    Coronavirii are ubiquitous. There are thousands of strains not even known yet. Every species has hundreds of variants, and most don't even cross between species. This is most likely just another one of a long line of zoonotic  vectors that will ultimately result from humans encroaching on every corner of the globe. 

 

  Nothing about this particular pandemic points to an engineered strain escaping from a laboratory. It looks looks similar but slightly more virulent than strains that already circulate in humans, with the typical increase in pathogenicity commonly seen when a host species first encounters a new contagion.
