In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Nope, I read the form and instructions all the way thru, and it only applies to people ( Certain people only, there are exceptions) who are filing form I485 to adjust status. If you already did AOS your good.

From what I read it will mostly effect people who file AOS from a K1 visa, or who AOS after arriving on a tourist visa, student visa, etc. and decide to get married and stay.

@missileman here is another reason to show the CR1 is superior to the K1, you get to avoid this form completely.

Here on a K1? Need married and a Certificate in hand within a few hours? I'm here to help. Come to Vegas and I'll marry you Vegas style!!   Visa Journey members are always FREE for my services. I know the costs involved in this whole game of immigration, and if I can save you some money I will!

For now. The DOS rule (different than the DHS rule, but very similar) is being pushed to be implemented on the same date, and that uses a DS-5540. I don't know exactly what it looks like, but the expectation is it will be very similar to the I-944.

I mean really, what do you put there. Sold two keys of columbian pure last month for 30,000 dollars of income. Looks like I'm above the poverty level now....

I'm assuming they are wanting people to disclose their unauthorized work. On one hand, it can show self-sufficiency as you have skills to obtain a job (although being a coke dealer would be a bigger issue... 😆 ). On the other hand, I'm assuming some people will be reluctant to answer it honestly, which may or may not be held against them as a material misrep later.

So I’ve been helping out our cousin and his (now) wife who arrived on k1, and are working on the I485, along with EAD and AP forms- this is my first time hearing this. It appears it must be submitted along with the I485, correct? (They will be submitting after 2/24- I see the website says to not submit prior to 2/24). The immigrant doesn’t have anything to her name- loans, debts, savings. Her husband (sponsor) and mother in law (co sponsor) do however and all are members of a household. So... to recap- this form now must be sent w the AOS from k1? If so I’ll be back to return with questions when we get to that point 🙂

Yes. The new I-864 and the I-944 must be sent for any AOS application filed on or after 2/24 (assuming they are subject to the public charge criteria, which all family-based applicants are).

Thank you @geowrian I didn’t realize there is a new I-864 form as well- we’ve completed the “old” one- I’ll definitely go to the website and check it out- we filed the documents out about 2 weeks ago and he’s waiting on a few things before submitting it (like the medical docs) I’ll review that we have the most updated ones.

On a side note I can only imagine how this will really affect and wonder how it will  limit immigration. Like i wonder how things are going to be weighted (ex. Having no debt (a positive) vs no English skills (a negative)) Maybe Discretion given to the individual officer doing the review.

Assuming it’s completed by the petitioner, I can’t see it having a positive effect on the AOS

Many sponsors might meet the income requirements, but once they disclose their bills/responsiblities such as mortgage, car loans and/or even tax debts, it will become highly apparent that many just can’t afford to sponsor people

Which is why it is highly recommended that "just answer what you are being asked", not divulging more information than what is requested.

This public charge is dated back to slavery era, where any slave who was able to get freedom "must demonstrate self-sufficiency" even if the owner wanted to release the slave to the freed, or "Manumission" [Search Public Charge in this link published by LSU law school scholar]

Not to mention, if slave is not able to demonstrate the self-sufficiency, then bond is required to be purchased to his/her merits by slave owner (and if you are a slave owner, then why would you pay for slave when you are already losing money since the slave at the time was part of financial asset, unless you, a slave owner, is very passionate to human right values and so on).

So now, it is very clear that when someone supports "Make American Great Again" slogan, then we should know what that kind of America is meant by.

Slavery in 1800 was a norm recognized by most countries and civlilizations, where slave owners proponents strongly supports. Now, it is even unthinkable to live under the world of slavery, so let's just assume that one day, there is no immigration office and laws, where moving to different country is not a privilege, but a mere right as free as we just travel to Las Vegas for vacation. Who knows, someday, history will record Trump and its MAGA supporters as a dark history of US as much as the history describes "the Southern Slavery Owners"
