Hi. We just got our interview date for my husband's overseas interview and I was wondering if there's anything that needs to be done by my spouse besides the medical before the interview such as registering at the embassy online for the interview? Also, the NVC email stated that from now on all the communication should be directed to the embassy, so how would I know when the embassy overseas has received my spouse's case? How long does it take and does NVC send it after initiating the interview or before because we have 6 weeks until the interview from the moment it was confirmed by NVC regarding the date. Is the case sent overseas from NVC to the embassy by physical mail or electronically?

I ask this because we submitted bunch of nice photos at the USCIS level and to this day I can't seem to figure out whether the US embassy overseas gets those pictures or is it precisely why it's required that the spouse brings the pictures and all the travel itinerary with him to the interview because those pics of us did not get that far up to the embassy's final stage? I'm assuming the USCIS had to send the pics to NVC, then NVC to the embassy but the confusion I have is why would NVC ask for our marriage certificate, my divorce decree etc once again if I had sent it to the USCIS at the early stage when petitioning?  In fact, all my husband's docs were also submitted when petitioning, but NVC asked all the same docs again once USCIS forward it to NVC, so it was double work for me pretty much. Im assuming because of this none of our pictures, travel itineraries will get to the US embassy and my husband has to bring everything we submitted to USCIS with him. Should we also expect a letter from US embassy when our case gets to the embassy (like a confirmation email) or is there a specific place to be checking for this? Could you please explain NVC to embassy stage for me a little as I don't have much info besides what my husband has to do regarding his medical on time for the interview. Trying to understand which docs gets forwarded and what needs to be done by us besides the medical before the interview date. Thanks in advance.

You only need to register your interview appointment, get the medical done and pick up the results if you have to (I had to but In other countries medical results are sent to the embassy).  If you log in on ceac, on the top right corner it will say “at nvc” or “at “embassy” “ so you can check there. Also here https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx?App=IV, it will say “at nvc”, “in transit”, and when it gets to the embassy I think it says “ready”.

I don’t know the answer to your other questions, but what I do know is the embassy wants to see the originals of all the documents you submitted. The embassy won’t send an email when they receive your case, but you can check on ceac and see when they receive it. You will only receive an email from the embassy if they reschedule the interview appointment or something like that. I didn’t know if the receive all your evidence like pictures, etc so I brought to my interview all the evidence of our relationship submitted to USCIS and nvc, And also new evidence, but I wasn’t asked to show any. But bring it just in case.

So for me it was like this:

receive Interview letter, register appointment, book my medical, get medical done, pick up medical results, and go to my interview. On my interview, I was asked for original documents of everything submitted to NVC.

Oh thanks for this helpful info! I thought that since NVC said all communication to the embassy now on, that the NVC website was no longer valid place to get additional info especially a status! I really appreciate your help! Will register my spouse and will have him do his medical next week. Thank you!! PS...I just checked and it says ready so I will register him now.

Yes, that means if you would like to reschedule or anything like that, then you should communicate with the embassy and not NVC. But to check your status you still check on the link I sent :) so after the interview you still use that link to check when the visa is issued.

good luck!!

I am having problems registering my husband's interview online because when I first input his info to create the profile, it gives me only the option to pick K1/K2 visa or then K3 visa, but not Cr-1 which is our category. I read the description and it says that K3 is for US spouses. Then in the next section of the profile registration, it is asking me to pick the TNT address where to deliver his passport, which I chose, but after that, it isn't letting me to move to the next page because it is requiring me to pay a visa fee, which we did for around $260 at the NVC stage  while ago and got our DS-260 confirmation, but unless I pay the visa fee, it isn't letting me move forward from that page to register our appointment and submit the whole thing. Also, I don't get why it says DS-160 receipt # that is wants me to input as MVR (or MRV) and why would I pay another visa fee for immigrant visa if we already have done it before. I spent several days trying to fix this and it's just not letting me because it requires me to pay a DS-160 fee, which DS-160 is for fiancees only and doesn't apply to us and I can't even pick CR-1 because its either the fiancee option of k3 to pick and I picked K3 as that pertains to spouse immigration. I'm about to give up on this site and I was wondering what the hell might be the issue. Can someone share their experiences if they had the same problem? Is Cr-1 appointment registration necessary...meaning can I just skip this and my husband can attend the interview without registering his appointment or it's a requirement?

P.S. I think I figured it out...but wanted to double check please. I kept clicking on immigrant visa where it asked for my husband's info then at the end I was supposed to pick an appointment date and pay the visa fee. Well, he did get his appointment confirmation by NVC and we had paid the visa fees before, so I assume that there's no need for me to register his immigrant visa appointment then? What I did was create a profile for him, then proceeded just to register the address where he is supposed to pick up his passport in case of an approval under Cr-1 category. So do people in my situation who got the appointment date by the NVC/Embassy directly, don't have to register that appointment date in their profile? I ask this because it does not give me tthe option to register his appointment that they set up for us themselves and it also gave me the option to pick the passport address where he can go and get it later on.

I kept clicking on immigrant visa and it took me to register and pay for his visa, hence my confusion.

Hi sorry for the late reply but Im replying anyway in case it’s still useful :) yes you don’t have to register the date they already have it on their system. So you only have to create the profile and choose where you want the passport to be delivered, and that’s all :)
